Anyone waiting for the HTC Passion/Dragon?

I'm looking to get a new phone and Verizon is the only decent network around here. I'm soooo close to getting a Droid. Went in and played around with it and liked it. Then I saw the Droid Eris and thought I'd just see what it's like and wow, I really like the Sense UI.

So now I'm a little torn. Do I just jump on the Droid wagon and have a nice phone now, or do I wait and see what might be in the HTC Passion? I'd really like to have something now, especially if the Passion isn't gonna be all that.

The thing about technology is that there's ALWAYS something 'right around the corner'. There's no use waiting for the next thing or you'd never get to buy a phone 😉

Personally I think either phone would be solid, but the motorola droid may be my choice. It's all around faster and it's possible that sense UI could be hacked and used on any android device.

I understand the whole "right around the corner" thing. But the HTC Passion could be just weeks away. There had been news about it being released on black friday, but it hasn't passed through the FCC yet. Just can't see it being released so soon.

I have a Droid (and also an iPhone 3GS) now and I think I'm going to take it back in preparation for the HTC Passion/Dragon or whatever they call it. I like Android but I think it combined with HTC's SenseUI would be amazing.

You have 30 days to return the Droid if something better comes along.

There's a restock fee of sorts I think but still a good way to get something else that might come out, and if nothing better does come out within those 30 days then either return for a full refund if you're not happy, or if you are happy, keep it.

Unless the Dragon is unbelievably badass, I'll still with my Droid. I don't like to change phones on a monthly basis.

It could potentially be nasty, but considering how little information we have, I'm doubtful its out in a few weeks. Also, I just can't do an all-touch device - I need physical keys. So it can be the most badass phone out there, without a keyboard, I won't be buying it.

Part of the definition of badass includes a physical keyboard.

Part of that for me includes a badass physical keyboard. My dream phone is the HTC Touch Pro 2, but with Android 2.0 OS, ARM Cortex A8 CPU or equivalent, and capacitive touch screen.

After playing with a droid today, I don't blame you.

You know that the phone we are discussing here supposedly is the HD2 with Android instead of WinMo right?

I took it back yesterday after 5 days of having it. The Best Buy clerk was like "WTF already?". The Droid isn't bad and I didn't have any really gripes about the keyboard other than the fact that I don't want one. I could see the slider getting really annoying after a few months of use considering the fact that it would wiggle ever so slightly from just being in my pocket.

The Droid was my very first Android phone though so it's pretty certain I'd like my next phone to run Android 2.0+ as well. For now though, I'm stuck with the iPhone until something else comes out. *sigh*

The latest from BGR is mid-December now. Makes sense that they wouldn't one-up the Moto Droid less than 30 days after its release. I'm up for an upgrade in a little over a month and am hoping if it's not out yet, at least more information will be known so I know whether to wait or buy.

I've read a few of the translated articles coming from Asia and it seems like most of them say mid-December or early Q1. The early Q1 date would make me buy the HTC Droid Eris immediately...we need some definitive dates.

I wonder why Verizon is letting this phone through though. It seems a direct competitor to the Droid. Why? It's like if ATT carried the iPhone and then immediately released the Samsung Omnia HD, Omnia II, and Touch HD2. You'd have multiple direct iPhone competitors... Shrug.

Verizon also carries the HTC Droid Eris, Blackberry Storm 2, HTC Imagio, and Samsung Omnia....

Verizon doesn't care which of their phones is selling well, as long as its their phones selling well. AT&T released the Tilt 2 and Pure not long after the iPhone 3GS, and they are direct competitors.

Verizon doesn't make phones, so more smart phone options compared to AT&T is their goal moreso than pimping out 1 phone. They want people using their network/data plans, I doubt they really care which phone is more popular.
