Anyone using Satellite TV WITH Internet connectivity?

Uploads with dialup modem

As far as I remember anyway... so, still sucks! 🙂
That's what I thought. Is it STILL this way?

No. Satellite is now two-way. I don't think its been one way in years.

It's fine if you're not a gamer. It's still very expensive compared to cable/dsl.
Do you have any rates to compare with?
DirectWay is$99 per month, cable/DSL will be $40 per month or less.
With Charter Cable, I'm paying $88.00 / month with a one year (expires in Aug.'05) promo deal. I have all these movie channels I (me and brother) never watch and was looking to reduce the bill. Basic Cable family Tier ( History, Discovery and Wings) is $55.00 and HS Internet is $45.00 after the promo wears off. Shopping for alternatives now.

Isn't latency still a big issue?
This was a concern I have.
Well, the satellites aren't going to get any closer to Earth and the data isn't going to travel any faster than the speed of light, so I'd say latency will *always* be a problem with satellite internet. 😉

Seriously, my neighbor and I had it for a year or so and while it was much better than dial-up, it was still a pain. Gaming is impossible (except perhaps for some MMORPG and the like) and it always had drop-outs and such from weather, etc.

yeap.

I have directway. I pay $99 a month until the equipment is paid off. then it drops to $65 a month.

The service really sucks. IF i could get anything else besides dial up i would. It cuts out all the time and the download rate's suck. Also if you download to much or on it ot long they lock you down. You get less then modem speeds.

Also ON-line games blow. lag is really bad and since it goes out for any reason at all its not very fun.

I really wish i could get DSL or Cable modem. Sometimes living in a small town sucks. heh

you get used to the latency (except for gaming, you just can't do gaming where low ping times are required)

it isn't really bad when you get used to it. it is still very expensive, so only use satellite when NO other choices are available.

if you have cell phone/wireless service available, you might want to look at that also. it isn't much cheaper , and it isn't any faster, but the latency isn't so bad (but can still be higher than analog dial up)
