I use my Samsung Gear S2 watch to pay at a lot of places. All I have to do is hold a button down on my watch for 2 seconds and hold my wrist up to the cc reader. Almost always gets a comment from the cashier like "you can do that?"

I need to try this with my S2.

**edit**
If Verizon ever releases the software update.

I don't have the Verizon connected one, just the cheaper bluetooth to phone only one.

As opposed to the thousands upon thousands of vectors for the way cc's have been used for years?

HAHAHA Right over your head. Did you miss the point about chiped cards?

I'm not saying it's perfect, but how many times have phones been hacked or infected with malware? To me, using a phone to pay for things just adds a WHOLE new problem in secure POS transactions. No matter what they say about security this and that. I would argue that one of the most secure systems will be that of the biological identification. Whether that be an retina scan, finger print scan or audio fingerprint, it's attached to you and only you and so far, the human body hasn't been hacked. But I digress. The databases can be hacked. Perhaps the federal government or at the state level needs to create a certain set of "cyber standards" for database security. This standard should be created by a consortium of whitehat hackers and computer professors from various colleges and universities.

Chip readers in my area take just a few seconds. I never have to sign. Insert....approved... Done. Faster than loading an app, tapping the screen, holding it against the reader, and that's assuming the store has cell reception (many don't).

Nope. None of my CC or debit cards are on my phone in any way shape or form. Plus, I switch phone like 4 times a year and never fully get to utilize any of my mobile devices.

Oh, I understood your point, but it seems you misunderstood mine. But that is my fault for not elaborating.

No electronic payment method is 100% secure, we all know this.

Not sure why security is such a big deal. I have had my CC number stolen a few times. Just dispute the charge and move on with my life. It is the CC issuers problem, not mine (OK a little annoying having to change my bill pay CC numbers).

Your SSN is waaay more important than you might think.

Like blackangst1 said, your SSN isn't on the credit card. So, it can't be stolen from the credit card. The information on the magnetic stripe is the same information you can see from reading the front and the back of the card. The information isn't stored on the chip either (it is stored on servers), the chip just gives the card reader the ability to communicate with the servers.

I was thinking in the context of a database breach. In terms of your CC stolen, yeah, you just cancel the card and all that rot, but to me that's a royal pain in the rear and I feel owned and I hate that!

I use Android pay once in a while, but Samsung Pay is the best of the services. They bought that proprietary magnetic field tech from a company and it's a great solution- it registers as a swipe even though nothing went through the slot.

I use Apple Pay everywhere that takes contactless payment. It's great. And in Canada, contactless is all over the place. I'd say about 75% of retailers have it now. All I do is double click home button and then hold my thumb there for TouchID and I'm done. That's with my default credit card that is. If I want to use a different card then I have to add a step to select the desired card which adds all of 3 seconds to the transaction.

My Visa and Amex both support Apple Pay. It's especially a bonus for my Amex because I'm using an old grandfathered Amex that doesn't have and likely never will get chip and pin or built-in contactless (since it's an old discontinued card) but which now supports Apple Pay. I continue to use this old Amex because it has the best cash rewards in its class for an Amex, which is presumably why they discontinued it - too expensive for them.

My current MasterCard is not supported but it just so happens I will soon be changing to a MasterCard since the new card has better rewards, and that new one also happens to support Apple Pay as well. So, now for Apple Pay I'll be all set with those cards from the big three credit card companies.

Representing the old people of America, I still use cash for at least 50% of my purchases. If my cash falls on the ground, hopefully my feet are fast enough before the bill(s) blows away. If your phone falls on the ground, I'll be laughing and laughing, as you try to explain that you don't have a credit card or cash to pay for your purchase.

I never timed how much longer the chip enabled credit cards take to process the transaction, but the seconds do seem like a long time compared to just swiping the card.

Yes you are old and yes you are missing out on free money from cc rewards. Funny how people don't get that.

The only things I can charge are my mortgage and car loan. Everything else is typically charged.

^I've been using cash mainly for the first time in my life over the past two years. What a mess... Change is heavy and takes time to count, I've probably been accidentally short changed, and stores occasionally run out of money/change. Clerks have had to run to another register to get me change or money for a return a few times over the past year.

Many of you don't seem to realize just how common RF readers are. You assume they aren't there at most of the places you shop, but they are.

I don't see the advantage of Apple/Android pay over using the standard contactless swipe that's out now, what am i missing?

I use cash 99% of the time. There's no such thing as free money. They're getting data for the transaction, and I don't want to give it. Also, I'll stab a "hacker" in the face that trys to get my cash. I'm not interested in trivial convenience. I like straight forward transactions, without abstractions.
