Anyone Using DVI w/ 2405FPW?

So I'm going to be purchasing a 2405FPW in the morning... and I decided an eVGA 6600 GT would be a decent video card to use for it. (Just ordered for $144 AR @ Newegg but it's not too late to cancel if you know better).

I noticed the video card has DVI-I and the monitor has DVI-D. Which DVI cable is best to use between them? Do I need a Male DVI-D to Male DVI-D cable? I noticed Belkin has quite a few types for sale. I'm assuming DVI is the best way to connect.

One thing I noticed on eVGA's web site is this text:
- 2048 x 1536 x 32bit x 85 Hz Max Analog
- 1600 x 1200 Max Digital

Does that mean this card will not support the 1920x1200 resolution of the 2405FPW if I use a digital connection (such as DVI)? Please advise. What is your recommendation?

DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1080,
while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2048 x 1536.

So make sure it is dual link DVI ( not dual DVI connectors )

DVI-D is a digital only connection.
DVI-A is an analog only connection.
DVI-I contains both the digital and analog connections, (DVI-D + DVI-A).

A single link DVI cable will support the 1920x1200 resolution of the 2405FPW. I use a single link DVI cable to support my Sony monitors at 1920x1200. I am also using an older NVidia card, a Quadro 940. The 6600GT should be able to support the 2405FPW.

You'll be fine. Just use the cable included with the monitor.

Single-link DVI supports up to 1920x1200 and dual link goes beyond that (can't remember the exact spec).

Don't pay that much for a DVI cable.

Let me see if I can't find you one for a lot less. Personally I don't think you need it. The cable that came with the 2405s I had were quite good.

Here ya go.

Ok -- there seems to be some disagreements.

I'll use the DVI cable that comes with the 2405 ONLY if it can support 1920x1200 with my 6600 GT. Can anyone confirm?

Also -- I'd like to know your opinion on getting my cable TV (not digital) into my 2405FPW.

Is it better to use a VCR or get a TV tuner card? Money is not a huge deal... as long as I don't spend over $100. What do you recommend and why?

DVI Tutorial

It is a good tutorial, even if I disagree with their saying that the max resolution for a single link DVI cable is 1920x1080@60Hz. Then again, maybe I am just "overclocking" my DVI cable. :) Still, I know I can say that I have 8 computers, each with two monitors for 16 total monitors, running single link DVI cables at 1920x1200@60Hz. Two of the eight are with a Quadro 3400; the other six (including mine) are with a Quadro 940. :)

Since the 2045FPW has PiP and PBP, is it better to use VCR for TV input so that you can watch the TV as PIP and BPB? I assume if you use a TV tuner card you cannot put the TV signal in the PIP.

What do most people do? I value your advice :)

I think a tuner card would get you better quality myself. Also you'll be able to record if you want/need to.

The PIP isn't a big deal, just set your tuner's screen to always be on top and have it not maximized. Keep the resolution small (say 640x480?) so that the quality of the picture will be good.

I don't think that PBP is worth considering, as you'll get too small of screens.

HI, I just completed my new computer yesterday and I bought the 6800 msi GT, and it has the dual dvi connection. I just hooked it up on my viewsonic vp2000s and it looks spectacular, knocks the socks off when I just had an analog connection in my other computer. I found this thread when I was searching to find out whether the the dell 2405fpw had the dual, I just bought one and it will be here wednesday and I wanted to be sure because I will never go back again after seeing what a difference it makes. the cable cost $50 at mylocal frys, I suggest trying ebay to find one, I am sure you will save over half. Oh...you will need a male to male end in case you are wondering which one to get when ordering like I did. This thread confirmed that the dell does indeed have it and I understand the majority of folks don't have one and are really not that familiar twith this yet. As most of the half a dozen computer sales clerks at Frys were not. I am only writing this to let you know that the difference is night and day. good luck to ya...

Boy, I sound so new it is digusting...okay, I got very excited over seeing dual dvi-d connection for the first time. Now I need help...I just bought a dell 2405fpw today and love the panel, but no where does say it is hdtv ready like my viewsonic vp2000s. I want to hook up my cable to it so I can get high definition programming. I read that I can't with the DVI-D connection but I can get my hdtv through a comcast box with hooking up component cables?? I read I also need an optical for audio? could someone who is familiar with the 2405fpw hdtv connection help me on how this should be done. Do I go through the pc or not? any help advice would be so much appreciated.
thanks
