My company is looking into it, but the site is very unclear. The site says that the modem acts as a router/firewall and with their networking upgrade, you can connect up to 5 computers to it.
We have about 10 computers here and are currently using a linux based router.
Does anyone else have more than 5 computers connected to the net through DIRECTV DSL?
If the modem acts as a router, are we going to have weird problems if we connect our router to that?

Thanks.

Hey there,

I have DirecDSL. It is awesome. I love the fact that they don't care if you run servers and you get a static IP.

I currently have more than 5 machines running behind a Cisco 806 VPN Gateway on my DirecDSL connection and I have no problems. I didn't have any probelms getting the Cisco gateway to work with their "gateway". I just turned them both off, turned on the DirecDSL gateway and waited for it to come up, then turned on the Cisco.

I hope this helps.

I don't know much about VPN, but that sounds encouraging.
I've heard of people having to install special DIRECTV software on each computer connecting through their gateway. Any truth to that?
Were you able to keep your router's IP at 192.168.1.1 on the LAN?

I remember installing their software initially, but I think that's only to set up the line or something. Since then, I've uninstalled it and it still works. I notice my connection dies once every few weeks, but not for very long. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the service.

Just hooked up a wireless Belkin gateway/router through the Directv "modem" and am running 4 pc's off of the basic set-up.

Just ran DSL reports line test off one of the wireless nic cards:

Your download speed : 1182881 bps, or 1182 kbps.
A 144.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 72886 bps, or 72 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!
