Hi
I just saw this program over at PCWorld.com. It is suppose to check your computer for spyware programs. I tried it and it said that I have 20 cookies that were there and should be deleted since they were spyware.
Just curious if anyone else is using this program and is it safe to use.
Thanks

I have used AdAware for some time. Like you I was surprised by the number of spyware items it found when I ran it the first time. I later installed WindowWasher and have found that there is nothing left for AdAware to find after I Wash at the end of every internet session. I still run AdAware occasionally. If I run it before I run WindowWasher it almost always finds one or two -- like the doubleclick cookie -- but nothing after WindowWasher runs.

Windows Washer is an excellent Internet files cleaning progarm.

Link to Windows Washer

However, Windows Washer is not meant to detect: Registry entries, Files, and DLLs, that are installed on your harddrive by various Ads programs.

The installed files (Spyware) ?Call Home? reporting you surfing habits.

Ad-aware will clean this stuff (and it is Free).

In other word, you have to use both.

You might also check out a program called AdSubtract from Download.com... After running AdAware the first time, I installed AS, and as long as it's enabled, there's been nothing for AA to find. Gets rid of some of the internet ads, as well (but not all).

I had once used AdAware (when I used to spend time in Windows), and it did a very nice job. I was completely satisified with its performance and I would heartily recommend it to anyone out there.
