Linksys routers' newest firmware has the proper options included to set up a router with AOL DSL.

you have to buy an router from AOL but the linksys thing is new .. i think i should tell my friend about it.

AOL has a modified PPPoE and hence standard routers or standard PPPoE programs wont work (RASPPPoE wont work i tried wont authenticate on my friends system).

I will look into the linksys one for my friend.

With the way AOL is under seige these days, it sort of amazes me that they apparently make their dsl service so hostile to users. I was really surprised when I first heard that you couldn't use a router with aol. Glad Linksys finally figured out a workaround, but it shouldn't have to be that difficult.
