So has any of you ever used these fpr pest control before? I'm thinking that due to the low velocity that these will do very little to no damage, but will still be very effective on pest.

I've read somewhere that the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc didn't bother banning these du to the low power and the dire need for pest control, but that was a long time ago...

Sounds like the gun itself isn't anything special...more difficult finding a dealer to sell you the specialized rounds unless you pack them yourself.

410 is pretty common for novelty shotguns. I'm not sure how common smooth bore rifles are for other calibers. Depending on the shot used, I wouldn't want to do damage to a nice rifle...just do research and maybe ask your local dealers.

The picture there shows CCI...they sell a lot of performance .22 rounds. Maybe you can call them up and ask about what they offer. I prefer .22 rimfire in everything because they're usually dirt cheap...

Around here we call it bird shot. I've used this type of ammunition for several years to control birds in our barn from nesting. It works well and I don't have to worry about punching a hole in the roof like I would with a regular .22 round.
I can find boxes of them at Bass Pro for a reasonable price but they are kind of spendy considering what they are. I chalk that up to being a semi-niche product though.

The guns notsomuch, but I remember selling a fair amount of this kind of 'pest control' ammunition in .22 (maybe .17?) when I worked at walmart. Most customers called it rat shot, basically mini-shotgun stuff. As far as I know it works well enough if you don't want to practice aim with a pellet gun or a .17 or something.

.22 shot shells are usually loaded with tiny #12 shot and only effective at very short ranges, especially out of a pistol, which is good if you need to use one in a barn or garage. But the rifling of a .22 isn't the best for creating a tight pattern on the target. A smoothbore garden gun is obviously a better choice, but you are still working with smaller shot.

A .410 shotgun loaded with heavier #6 or #7 1/2 shot, which is still relatively small, has a greater effective range depending on the choke installed. And you can always shoot larger shot or slugs depending on the need.

You can pick up a Rossi or Hatfield .410 single shot shotgun lots of placed, including many Walmarts, for around $99.

Just remember these garden guns are the same as any firearm, and illegal to shoot in lots of places, especially around the home. And forget about the Bug-A-Salt gun. My friend bought me one as a joke and you need to be under 8 inches to kill a fly or you just shoo it off. Or maybe try really course salt.

Back in the day the day, some people would load shot shells with rock salt and shoot stray dogs and misbehaving kids. My mother used to tell me that her girlfriends dads even shot at teen boys peeking though windows seeing their daughter undressing....

My oh my have tomes changed.... Can you imagine some dog or kid getting hit with rock salt these days? I used to know a few guys who been shot with that stuff and not only does it burn... they also cried like little girls... Their words not mine.
