I thought Crazy Eddies went out of business years ago? Last I heard Eddie went to jail for some kind of fraud.

Thanks for the heads up. It looked too good to be true.

I ordered my Denon AVR-1601 from them.

My experience was less than ideal. All in all it took me about four weeks to get my receiver after I made the first attempt to order it. But in the end, I got a good price on a great receiver, about $40 cheaper than I could get anywhere else.

I approached them with an offer to give me $260 shipped on the receiver, since I had another site running a special that I could get it shipped for $265. I placed this quote via email, and CRAZYRT41@aol.com, or whatever his email addres is, agreed. He repied very fast - like ten minutes. I went to place the order two days later (their hours conflicted with my schedule), and they would not agree on that price even though I forwarded their own email to them. On the same token he would not let me place a price-matched order online at first, and I had to call them. There are numerous employees but it appears that one guy runs the show.

So I left my first order attempt empty-handed. I then e-mailed them back and they agreed on $275 shipped. Not as good but the deal I had expired so I had to go with it.

According to my email logs I placed my order on 4/4/01. After no confirmations or anything after a week I emailed him on the twelfth. He said I had been charged on 4/11/01 and that my order would ship the day after he charged me.

Well after no go I emailed him on 4/18. He promptly replied with a tracking number, but it didn't show up. I asked him why, he said he just shipped it today, and it would be valid that night.

So I ended up getting it 4/25. I had first attempted an order on 3/31, or around. That's not very good turnaround.

Buyer beware, they also charge $40+ for shipping. That is why I negoitated a "shipped" price. Also on the phone he made a big deal about how they "double box" their products whereas the competitor I was ordering from did not. So, you would think that this double box would be a spacious box lined with kernels for the price he tried to charge me for shipping. When it arrived the second box was maybe 1 inch bigger in all dimensions - and the only padding was a sheet of cardboard.

Thankfully Denon packed the receiver box well.

My opinion? If price means that much to you, go for it. Else go to lgdsuperstore.com which appearantly is rated well and has prices maybe 10% above Eddy's but still far below anyone else.

I ordered a receiver and speakers from jandr.com. I got them to pricematch crazyeddies.com. Jandr.com is an authorized dealer of the equipment they sell so you the manufacturer's warranty will be valid. I got my order in only 4 days too. I live in maryland and they shipped from new york so you might get your order sooner or later than that depending on where you live.
