Thinking of getting a 50+ inch rear projection HDTV in the next few days.

Right now I use my Xbox for everything, and I know that XBMC supports progressive scan while the normal XBox DVD player does not (though I think it can be hacked).

Anyway, wondering how XBMC stacks up versus the Xbox DVD player and other players in image quality for DVD playback (and other formats as well if people have opinions). I know the Xbox DVD player is probably considered average.

I could get a higher end standalone DVD player, but I'm lacking the space in my audio rack, and I got XBMC so it could do everything for me.

i use DVDX for my main dvd player on my xbox. i've been doing so for like 2 years now, works great.

when i got my HDTV i patched the .xbe file. there is a patcher that will make it output in 480p. so i just did that and now watch all my movies in 480p.

i have tried watching movies on xbmc, but i just don't like it and it seems to freeze alot. however i haven't updated in a while though so that could be an old bug.

dvdx does what i need it to.

your tv will display everything as progressive no need to get a progressive scan dvd player.

I don't want to use DVDX as I have the Xbox remote.

XBMC is definitely much improved as well recently. The DVD core only became official a month or two ago.
