Pics of yard?

I'm wondering why you wouldn't just curve around some of the trees with a wooden fence.

I'm at work so no pics of the yard at the moment. The problem isn't a tree here and there, it's that along our property line there is pretty much a small forest, so it would at least one stretch of the fence would be dodging trees every 10 feet. I don't want to cut them down because I like the privacy that they give.

Final weight is expected to be about 120lbs.

It looks like this:

But comes in different patterns, heights and thicknesses. Home Depot or Lowes will carry the stuff.

That stuff isn't gonna fly if your dog decides to try and chew through it. I've had a medium-sized mutt chew through thicker stuff since they're generally welded where the wires cross and that weld isn't very strong.

I'd go with chain link if you can't do wood, since the links are intertwined rather than welded.

Ditto - the fencing that capt caveman has a picture of doesn't stand up to animals trying to get out very well. If your dog just works at the same area for a little while, eventually one of those welds will pop loose. Once that happens, the rest of the fence pretty much just falls apart.

I'd recommend a woven wire, rather than welded wire. It can be put up and be slightly attractive.

Last I bought some, it was around $300 for 330 feet (it comes in rolls of 100 feet or 330 feet.)
4x4's, you can figure the price on fairly easily. Most of the posts don't have to be in that deep - just the last two at each corner. If you do the corners correctly, when you tension the fencing, it'll just stand up straight the entire length without "needing" the extra posts to support it, although, they're necessary. If the above will stop goats (some other breed of goats than what I raise - that's not my picture), then it'll certainly stop a dog.
Oh, and before you find out the hard way after doing all that work, a lot of dogs can learn to climb fences quite effectively. Our old dog used to be able to scale 6 and 8 foot chain link with no problem.

My parents use the green stuff and have a GSD, bloodhound, and had a 180lb great dane and never had any problems with it. None of their dogs are psycho though.

I have two that escape my chain link fence so I use an invisible fence to back it up.

I'm actually building a fence very similar to this. It's about 720 linear feet. Will be getting 46" garden fence tomorrow to tack on before putting up the rails. Setting the posts today.

you think chicken wire around your yard will look better than chain link? /confused

I doubt the dog could bust through wire mesh, but i would worry about it coming loose from the post, unless you really get it attached somehow.

It's called 2' x 1/2" crown staples. The fence is not going to come loose with those staples.
