My brother and I enjoy playing Worms World Party, but we've only played over a LAN. It has the capability to play over the Internet, but it's Wormnet interface is buggy and frequently down.

I'm on cable and my brother is on 56K dialup. Unfortunately, there is no way for him to enter my IP address (I'll be running the server) directly from within WWP.

Would it be possible to play Worms as a LAN game if he connects to my systerm thru VPN? I'm hoping he could connect to my VPN server and it would be the same as though we are on a 2 system LAN. I've never used VPN in XP, but I found a few guides and went ahead and setup my system as a server. He hasn't had a chance to try to connect yet, though.

Would this be possible, or am I wasting my time?

Sounds like it should work to me, worth a shot.

edit: Assuming you're behind a router/fire wall you might need to forward some ports, 1723 for PPTP. You might also need to configure your router for PPTP Passthrough. IPSec is 500, 50-51.

One thing I noticed this morning is my cable Internet connection goes down when I've got incoming connections (VPN) enabled, and my IP address for the cable connection is much different than my normal range of IP addresses.

The Gateway IP address is off as well. What could be the cause of that problem?

Right now, it's setup where the caller (my brother) will be assigned an IP address from the DHCP server. Could assigning him a specific IP address manually fix the Internet connection problem?
