I have fairly thin facial hair, but electric razors pretty much blow.

I used to think that too, until I got a Braun.
Incidentally I been through Remington, Norelco, and a couple weird little brands I cant recall right now.

For an amazing shave, you should use this.

It has the added bonus that if you are tired of getting up in the morning to go to your boring ass job, one quick swipe across the carotid artery and all your cares go down the drain?

Norelco rotaries work well for me as a daily shaver if I follow these rules

1. No more than 24hrs growth
2. Face must be dry
3. Heads must be sharp (last about a yr for me)

I buy the cheap ones at walmart and when they get dull I buy a new one. Replacement heads cost more than the shaver. Just picked up a new one for $28+tax

I use a fusion 5 blade when I want a close shave or after I haven't shaved in a couple of days.

I am not "white" enough for any electric razor to work. You must be blondish white really thin hair for those to work. I tried dozens of em in the last 30 years and not one has ever come close to effectively shaving my beard.

I use one with this style of blade.
Works well, easy to clean.

An electric shaver is good only if you shave everyday and want to spare time.
If you want a perfect shave where absolutely nothing is left, then it's not the right thing.

I'm brunette with ridiculously thick facial hair.
My Braun works just fine.

Use the trimmers to get it down to 1 mm then shave in comfort.

I tried that, spent 200 bucks on a kickass braun. Didnt work. Hell, I use a 5 blade fusion and even on a fresh blade I can never get a real smooth shave. The only time my face is ever really smooth after a shave is on the rare occasion I get one at a barber using a straight blade.
