eSata is all I use.

Many seem to have trouble with it but that's only because they didn't read the manual or understand it.

Your name doesn't hafta be Einstein to purchase a computer. :)

I have 2 systems with eSATA, but never bought any devices to use them...it easier for me just to use ethernet, and store everything on a server. I do use a USB->SATA dock on occasion when I need to get files off individual SATA drives.

I have an eSATA dock and a bunch of bare 3.4" drives I use for backup. The only problem I've ever had was due to a cheap/defective eSATA cable. My drives would just disappear from Windows in the middle of a big file copy. I've experienced similar behaviour using the front eSATA port on my Fractal R3, so I just stick to the one on the motherboard.

Yes I have a LaCie eSATA / Firewire 800 / usb.

Using eSATA you get the same performance as your desktop HD

firewire is slower much slower, and usb is slooooooow! Make shure you get a external that has eSATA support. The external will be as fast as internal. thx gl.

While looking through my 2 motherboard manuals, I discovered that both of my motherboards have an eSATA port in the back. I then remembered that I chose these motherboards because they had at least 1 eSATA port, thinking I might find a use for them some day.

But in the few years that I've used these 2 computers, I have yet to come across a need to use the eSATA ports. I know that you can put an internal HDD into an external enclosure and connect the enclosure to the eSATA port, but is that all you can do with the eSATA port?

So my question is, has anyone put their eSATA port to use? What have you used them for?

Yes, I have esata hard drive enclosures - esata was very handy as performance was superb, I say was as my new motherboard doesn't have esata so will need to change to USB3.
