I used to use them at my previous apartment. Lots of problems but they tried hard to fix 'em. I'll bet the service is much better now. It was cheaper too. Only reason I switched to RR? moved and no RCN in this building!

I live in an apartment building too so wasn't sure how terrible the service would be. where in NY did you use them?

hey bigrash i would test it out before taking the plunge, is it even possible to keep both rcn and rr for you? so you can back out without having TWC to come in and out if you decide to go back?

my parents apt building has that 10m option, now i have verizon for them which is decent, but at some point i was interested (i still work in my old bedroom there on fridays) to switch to rcn, then i went to broadbandreports and saw some not so great reviews. and with verizon's good coverage of usenet i opted to stay the DSL course for parents.

at my own apt i use TWC/ELINK RR 6mbps, pretty good and cant complain

that's a good idea. i'm going to see if it's possible to keep both for a few days so i can test it out.

I keep reading bad reviews too so that's why I'm a little doubtful about the service. I get pretty good usenet speed on TW right now so I hope RCN has good download speed too

I used to use RCN back when they only had one way cable modem service (i.e. cable for download, had to use a modem and a phone line to initiate the connection and then for uploading). As someone pointed out here, they did work very hard to resolve my problems (which turned out to be Verizon's fault - bad phone line connection led to constant dropped connections). Ended up using DSL though because the one-way thing was just too much of a hassle. This was 4-5 years ago.
