Anyone use RAZER Megalodon for gaming?

I want to pick up a pair, I currently use an external MIC + ATH-A700's , which work GREAT, but these are 7.1 ... I feel it will be better for me to hear directional sounds, being 7.1 and all.

Anyone use these and like them? I like that they are USB.

They had the RAZER Carcharias at Blizzcon, and I LOVED how comfortable they were, and how good the sound was.

I assume these would really help me with FPS's.

This is simulated 7.1 sound I believe...not sure how that stacks up against real 7.1 or 5.1. I have the Tritton AX360 digital headphones (real 5.1) and really like them for gaming and some movies as well.

I've asked about these surround headsets in these forums all the consensus is that they all lack good audio quality and getting a high quality stereo set is better.

If it's just for gaming I can't see why you would really care about sound quality that much. Most games (especially FPS's) just bring out the boom boom anyway so as long as your set has decent bass it'll sound fine.

To the OP, my friend has a 5.1 headset (Creative I think) and he likes it a lot. I can't tell you if it helped him at all in games but he has always been really into FPS's and uses his headphones non stop in them.

I'd use them for 90% FPS's and WoW and whatever MMO comes out that i'll play with buddies in vent.

I'll buy it, if they suck, i'll return them and try out the RAZER Carcharias.

Unless someone has had bot and can say that one IS better then the other.

I haven't used the Razer headphones myself but I did pick up a pair of the Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA2s yesterday. I'm still working on dialing in the levels for the various speakers on these headphones but overall I have been liking them for games. They're actually pretty close to my Audio Technica ATH-AD700s in terms of sound quality. They have a good deal more bass response but that's to be expected since they have a subwoofer built into them. The directional cues are a bit easier to pick up than with a stereo headset and they're a bit more immersive. Overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I'd say give the Razers (or the Turtle Beaches for that matter) a try and see if you like them. If you don't you can always return them.

Some surround sound headsets use virtual surround and some actually will have multiple sound drivers in each ear. I've used a few and I didn't really notice that big of a difference between them and my stereo headset. Most games do a pretty good job nowadays simulating surround sound on a stereo set anyway.

If I don't notice a difference, i'll definitely return them.

Are the Carcharias 7.1? Or just stereo? I was hoping 7.1 would give me a better sound as to where the bastards are coming from, and I can spam them through the wall better in FPS's, like CS.

What soundcard are you currently using? "Surround" headsets are almost 100% gimmick and you're probably better off with your AudioTechnicas, as long as you have a decent soundcard. That said, I haven't personally heard the Megalodon. I had a friend who bought it and had nothing but problems. He never got his mic working properly.

I can always return it.

I've got integrated sound, 7.1 or whatever that comes on the gigabyte motherboard. P45 chipset if I recall.

My AudioTechnica's sound amazing, so I am hoping these do too. If they don't, after some tinkering, i'll return them.
