What is it you want to do? Crossplatform, I like Gimp. Windows only, I like Paint.NET. Neither has web integration, but you could probably get Gimp to do web via scripting.

just really simple, occasional photo editing. i just want something that is easy to use, less complicated than gimp. go check out pixlr and tell me what you think

It looks like a pretty nice setup. I played with it a bit, and it seemed to do everything I like with routine image manipulation. That said, I'm generally against using web applications. I don't like relying on a net connection, and I like being able to control the software. If you don't have those issues, it looks like it would work well for you. If you want local software, keep Paint.NET for Windows, but use Pinta instead of Gimp for GNU/Linux. Pinta is like a stripped down Paint.NET, but it covers the core functionality.

My creation with pixlr :^D

Not really. I just play around. I'm not especially artistic, so I generally just layer images, and use preloaded effects. For learning, Gimp is probably the easiest. It's a more complicated program, but it has more documentation available.

If there's something specific you want to do, Google(or my preference DuckDuckGo) "transparent background paint.net", or whatever it is you want, and you should be able to piece it together. You can also load up a picture, and see what the buttons do.

IME, the programs are very similar. If you learned how to do things on Gimp, you could apply that knowledge to other programs, including pixlr. Exact wording may vary slightly, but it should be close enough to feel your way through.

Image editing, especially with the larger programs is a complicated process. I have a hard time learning things just to learn them. What I do is build my knowledge slowly as the need arises. If you use the tools enough, they should stick, and you can build up your repertoire as you go, searching when you need to do something new.
