I just cleaned up my PC, uninstalled everything, cleaned the registy, defrag etc. Only 15 processes runnin' in Windows 2000 now! W00T! Anyway I am gettin sick of bloated as hell Office 2000 Pro so I decided to look for something else... Open Office is free and does everything Office2000 does... anyone use it? What do you think?

i use it, along with Office 97. No way I'm giving M$ anymore cash for stuff I don't need.

Heh, once you load OpenOffice you'll reconsider the bloat comment. :)

All in all, OO is pretty good sofware though (if you can get past the load time).

yeah, i resigned myself to the fact that most worthwhile office programs are bloated... open office FEELS quite bloated due to the load time, but its negligible over the horrible amounts of junk the MS suites install

I tried Open Office. It is alright, and does pretty much everything necessary. I just find MS Office much more convenient to use.

OO is still an immature product, give it some time, it'll get there.

1.0.X-series is pretty slow, but from what I have heard, 1.1-series is order of magnitude faster.

I like open office. I don't seem to be experience any of these slow-downs you guys are mentioning.

I have it installed on my laptop. And it's DOG slow on loadup. But that's probably due to it being a K6-2 400 with 32, yes THIRTY-TWO! MB of ram. :)
Haven't used it much, but it seems pretty good though.

It's not slow once it's running, but the startup can be pretty slow. But, like I said, that's fixed in the 1.1-series.

Star Office is the commercial version of OpenOffice. It has some commercial thingies in it that OpenOffice lacks (like more fonts, clipart, support from Sun etc. etc.). Of course, it alsi hasa pricetag as well.
