I had a CitiBank Mastercard that I got when I was in college. MBNA and Citibank were the two I chose ... I started receiving weird charges on my CitiBank card for $50 for a Flower and Potting subscription or something ... and I called to find out why. They told me that they sent me a mailing with my bill that I needed to checkoff and return to them to say I did NOT want the subscription. Since I didn't respond, they charged me for it! I signed up for a Credit Card not Columbia House. I dropped the card after that and have never gone near a CitiBank card. Still use my MBNA Visa as my main credit card though!

BAD idea. With most of those, interest starts accruing the moment the checks are cashed by your biller. That obliterates any visible benefit of paying bills with your card.

That was ALMOST exactly what I was looking for until I found out that the payee must accept American Express...none of my utility companies accept American Express.

CapitalOne sends me at least 5 conv. checks every month. I used them all the time. but they don't give you rebate nor extra mileage with thses checks. sometimes I use this check for my mortgage and even pay other credit cards.

Don't they nail you with a finance charge for using convenience checks?

Also, shouldn't you be doing balance transfers instead and save the money for a stamp?

it is called purchase check. these checks are treated as purchase, so no transaction fee/cash advance fee, just like you write your own check except from CapitalOne credit card balance.

and the second bulleted item specifically states:

" Make your online bill payment from a checking or savings account"

Does anyone know of any online bill paying services that allow payment funded from a credit card?

The places I have checked and have been told "no" are:

Citibank
Chase
E*trade
Yahoo
<EDIT> add USBank to the list

Thanks.

MBNA did the same thing to me though, they were sending me Sports Illustrated for a while then sent me a bill for it. I called them up about it and they took it the charge off my account.

I haven't found any cc that will allow that.

what you mean pay bills to ANYONE directly... do you use this card?? based on the link and the wording, you may think so... but when you get their card, this feature you see is only for reoccuring payments, and they have a scroll downlist of companies / merchants for which people tend to have reoccuring payments for...

but no banks are on the list... say for paying a mortgage...

My bills from Comcast, Cingular, PG and E, SBC, and Netflix all get routed to my CC where I pay them off at once and earn rewards points at the same time. For free.

MBNA is currently allowing me to pay any bill I want with my CC. I've been able to pay my Target Bill, Gas, Power, Water, and even my Auto Loan.

The DOWNSIDE is that most if not all of those transactions do NOT accrue points because they are considered out of network purchases. Supposedly there are some that are in network. However, I've been using regular company websites to pay for everything except a few things -- simply hoping that it will be in-network then. Who knows! I'd love to find a CC that allows me to do this.
