I just went on a streak of losing weight that started last year. I'm down 100lbs from where I started and about 120lbs from my heaviest.

I never tracked calories. It started when my wife wanted a wrist activity tracker so I told her I want one to compete with her. Long story short, I just kept hitting my goals and naturally wanted to eat better to go along with it (because why do all that walking otherwise??).

At my peak I was losing 3-5lbs/wk. All I did to eat better was decide that "this" is better than "that" so I would start eating "this" instead, or just cut something out altogether. I walked 6 miles per day and still keep it above 4 miles to this day. I'm at about 190 days straight of walking at least 4 miles (last night was almost 7 miles after playing soccer). I had a streak of about 120 days when I was at 6 miles. An injury forced me to not walk (excessively) for about 4 weeks or so.

It's all about determination. If this is the key that gets you started, then great. Determination will force you to make the changes needed.

Dude, that's badass. Good on you.

Works great, but you just have to be honest with yourself and the app. The best thing you can do is get an accurate fitness tracking device like a Garmin Forerunner watch and start running.....tracking miles and calories. I've been doing that the last few years. I lost about 20lbs, gained 5 back in muscle....my wife lost 40lbs and weighs less than she did when we got married.

I've not been actively trying to lose, but have been running a lot lately. It's nice to leave guilt behind when you know what you've burned off by exercising and seeing it on the app with your food intake.

I used it to count calories earlier this summer cause I really wanna gain some frickin weight. I downloaded it on my phone because I wanted to seriously see how much I was eating and it turns out that I would only make my calorie goal if I ate fricking constantly throughout the day, which is something I do not normally do and have never done (and I've always been thin, weird). I'm fine with eating a breakfast, lunch, and dinner but honestly beyond that I'd be fine, though a snack a night would be ok. But I've since lowered my target weight so the goal is a little more realistic for me, for now anyway. I think I'm gonna try again but it sure ain't easy for me cause I just do not feel the need to eat that much.

My GF logs everything she eats in there. I offer her a bite of a snickers bar and 5 seconds later she's on her phone entering 1/6 of a snickers bar into her daily log. Its borderline insane.

Has lost a lot of weight though.

It's not insane if it works! 😉

Took me awhile to realize that everyone is different, even in fitness. To me, Weight Watchers & all that is ridiculous - I don't want to track every little thing I put in my mouth all day long! But if that's what it takes to get & stay motivated - especially if you're analytical person - then more power to you.

Especially since there's more than one way to lose weight. You can eat fewer calories than you burn & manage it by tracking everything. You can switch your diet to lean meats, good carbs, and good fats and eat normally. You can eat a fruit-based raw vegan diet & eat as much as you want. Lots of paths out, just depends on what your goals are.

It's funny how things change over time. I am the biggest flip-flopper on the planet when it comes to learning new information & converting over to it (and tending to overly-defend what I already know & love, haha). I switched to macros (IIFYM) a year or two ago (essentially the same idea as Weight Watchers) & LOVE it! Yes, it is annoying logging food (although once you get your common foods down, it's not so easy), but it's so much easier to get the exact results you want, plus you're not stuck eating "clean" food all the time. I used to think sugar was the devil & counting calories was crazy, but now I eat dessert just about every day & get better results than when I was living on a diet of chicken breast, broccoli, and sweet potatoes all the time. I've also found it more freeing than restrictive because filling in the daily food chart is like playing Tetris...you're not locked into any particular type of food or meal & can adjust as desired; I actually find it more motivating to cook & eat because I have specific targets (calories & macro numbers) to go after rather than just question marks (in terms of eating a diet of primarily whole foods...which isn't bad by any means).

Lift heavy & you will get hungry. Or so my weightlifting friends tell me (I'm not a weights guy, I like calisthenics). Cardio can also amp up your appetite. What do you do for exercise right now?

Yeah lifting would probably help, at least somewhat. I get no exercise now, besides walking up/down to the second story at work, lol. I'm a software developer so I do a lotta sitting, plus after I get off work there's several hours more of sitting. I actually wouldn't mind doing some cardio but I'm hesitant to do any exercise that makes it necessary to eat even more calories, which I have enough trouble with.

Oh, forgot to mention: I also have some mass gainer powder stuff (I did have some by Body Fortress, not sure if that's what I have now). I use it but not consistently. It ain't very appetizing but it's probably easier for me to get calories via powder than food, so I'm going to have to incorporate it regularly if I'm gonna be serious about this.

i started to use it and used for like a month but it got so annoying i have stopped.

i want to lose weight and I have several things that should motivate me, but I just can't stick with it to do it. I guess I have no willpower or it's like I just don't give a shit.
