They're offering iPhones now, and boast an "free" plan with like 200 voice minutes, 500 texts, 500mb data -- which is actually exactly what I need.

IIRC, they're using Sprint, right? And I guess you probably at least have to pay taxes.

Still, $400 for an iPhone 5 + 0/mo is a pretty good deal

You can bring your own sprint phone to them and use the free plan. Not all phones are supported I believe. I am not too familiar with their cell phone plans but do they use VoIP like republic wireless does and not regular cell signal for voice/text?

I just got one of their hotspots. 500mb free + if you add some e-mails of other freedompop users you can get another 500mb. There are lists of e-mails on slickdeals you can add. Not bad for a free service. The signal and speeds have been pretty good when I tried it. I can get good signal and 6-8 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up.

The hotspot was free and you can disable automatic top-up and such. So everything was free. The wimax network is being shut down in a year by sprint though.

I have had one of their hotspots for just over 2 months with the free data plan. I just wanted to try it out to see what the speeds are like and I have been very impressed. I have had similar speeds that ImDonly1 mentioned above. Not bad at all. I got the hotspot on a deal for about $20 so I am only out that and I am trying the service out using the free plan to see what kind of reliability. Where I am (Central CA), the speeds have been very good and haven't slowed so it's looking good. Their cell service is next on my list to try out. Can't beat the prices though.
