Anyone use Epson inkjet printers to print on DVD's

Was wondering how well they work? I was thinking about getting the 200. Newegg sells a variety of printable disks.

no but if you drink anything at your computer or touch them with sweaty hands you won't like the results....imagine a cold glass of pop....what is on the outside of the glass? Condensation.....you think you might touch a CD after touching the glass?. Just telling you the faults

Being waterproof is not really an issue. I've been burning disks since probably 1996 when I bought a 4x8x Panasonic SCSI drive and I don't think I've ever had a wet CD.

I'm curious to the quality of the print. I'd assume it's pretty darn good considering how well most INkjet printers work now.

Keep in mind neither are the inside of CD/DVD drives.

god can't you guys see what I am talking about. Think about it instead of making sarcastic responses. Its an issue they bring up many times in reviews. As for quality you will probably have to find a review site to find that out

I've used the Epson R200 for printing to CDs.

While I've only printed a handful so far, it works pretty well.

Everything lines up easily, The finished product looks pretty good, I like it.

The ink isn't waterproof, but, it doesn't come off as easy as some suggest. It's no worse than a photo printed on an ink jet.

I think you'll be happy with the results if you give it a try. For a $90 printer it's pretty good.

I've got the Stylus 960. Worked great for the Ritek x04's. Doesn't quite extend far enough on Imations with the printable hub. I agree with Griffinhart. *note: Ink won't stick at all to non inkjet printable.

We use a bunch of R200's at work for printing on CDs. Seems to work great for us. Of 10 printers only 1 had any kind of problem and Epson replaced it.

I recommend the R200, especially for the price.

I've got an Epson R320 and think its a great printer. Printing on inkjet DVD's looks as good as if you were to do it on matte paper.

BTW: Do a Google search for "CD Protection Spray" and you'll find plenty of companies who sell stuff you can spray on your printables to make them less likely to get damaged by water (though most of the companies are in the UK...huh).

will work wonderfully, I have the R200, and people have said "no fvckin way you did this on your pc, on a 100$ printer man!"
get good labeling software. I don't love it, but all in all I think Surething is the best cd/dvd labeling software I've found. Though I always keep my eyes peeled for something new/better. If anyone has experince with something else lemme know!

all of the links in that google search are UK based. I've been looking for a product to protect my printed discs, but can't seem to find anything. Anyone know of a US company that offers some sort of cd coating spray?

For anyone interested I was at Sams CLub yesterday and they are selling the R200 for $79.99. Thats the cheapest I've seen so far.

another printer to check out is the canon PIXIMA IP3000 PHOTO INKJET PRINTER i have been using one for the last month and the ink is cheap and has a paper tray as well as loading in from the top.

cheers

Unfortunately the North American version has the CD/DVD printing disabled.

We have a Primera at work. It's bundled with our DVD Duplicator and is a decent printer and all but is one dimensional. The nice thing about the Epson is it can also serve as your everyday inkjet printer.

too bad the Epson is so slow, maybe the R800 is more speedy. But I print a good # of cd's on my r200 and it's unbarable, I think about 3 minutes a cd, and that's not full surface graphics. But for 100$ it can't be beat. If I was rich I'd get a Signature III or something though 🙂

thank you, but which one is better, epson r200 or canon ip 300?

Considering the Epson does DVD's it's superior on paper. Since they are the same price I wouldn't even consider the Canon.

Speed is not really an issue for me. If I have to wait 3 minutes so be it. I already waited 9 minutes to burn the DVD. 🙂

I own the Epson R200. It does a great job on the prints and the bundled software is simple enough. There are a few issues though. It does print rather slowly (3 min per CD). I've never had another printer that printed to CD's, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it does feel like it takes a while. The bigger issue is after a lot of prints 30 or so, the tray starts to have loading issues. The simple workaround is just to push it gently as the tray starts to slide in.

To those that have the Epson can you recommend some good printable media. Newegg sells a lot of it but most of it seem to be cheaper non-name brands like Dupsonic. I saw some Fuji printable media today at best Buy but it was pretty expensive. About $30 fora 25 pack.

I just picked these up from Newegg:

They've actually come down in price and I just bought them last week. I paid $17.

Has anyone figured out how to waterproof them yet? I read on another forum to spray them with Krylon Clearcoat (Matte). I tried that and it did work, but somehow the spray got on the other side of the disc. I sprayed it on a flat piece of wood, so I'm not sure how that happened. I even covered the center with a quarter.

Thanks!
-Mike

I saw those at Newegg and wondered about the quality. I noticed Newegg also sold disks by Dupsonic and they actually have very good ratings over at dvdhelp.com
