anyone use EAC to rip their CDs?

I think I've tried using EAC to rip and then have it point to LAME to encode but I was never able to get it to work. I ended up using EAC to rip to .wav and then the RazorLAME frontend to encode to .mp3. Been a while since I've ripped anything, though.

As Heisenberg stated, EAC does not include an MP3 encoder, so you will need to download one and tell EAC to use that encoder in the settings. After that, EAC will be cake to use, and it is by far the best ripper out there.

you can use razor lame to encode wav to mp3 separately using the lame codec. about the same either way though

EAC is a great tool if you want to make sure you get 100% perfect copies. But this is only a program that's needed for people encoding in like FLAC or SHN, which are lossless. Seeing how you're going to put them in mp3, you really don't need a program like this.

That's weird, just reinstalled EAC and used Lame to rip a whole cd of mp3's devoid of sound 😱

Double checked my settings and everything is ok, even the dolby bar is moving when they play empty air.

ROFL. You must enjoy pops and other imperfections in your mp3s, no?

This is all you need to create great mp3s. I suggest following this guide exactly.

Great. I didn't mean that cdex is a better tool, it's just a EASIER tool for this situation. I don't even rip anything at all in mp3s. If someone cared about imperfections they wouldn't be ripping into mp3 in the first place. I use EAC so I can make sure I have a perfect rip, and then encode it all into FLAC. Yeah...

If you're going to lose data via compression, wouldn't it make sense to start with a nearly perfect rip, rather than a less-than-perfect rip and further degrade the signal via compression?

I too prefer CDex. Its a better front end and easier to use.
In fact I tried using EAC last night and couldn't get it to work, and the ripping was slow as heck.
