I have since Feb.

Like them very much, every time I've called they've been extremely helpful, none of the "I'll transfer you" BS. I've never had a problem getting the 4% interest but some have but they were resolved quickly.

They also might be getting remote deposit, if that is of interest to you. http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...ers-Credit-Union-Selects-VSoft-Remote-Deposit

There's also a referral bonus, $50 each to the referer and referee, PM me if you're interested:) https://www.myconsumers.org/en/abou...1-02/Member_to_Member_Referral_Promotion.aspx

We use Navy Federal and Pentagon Federal. Pentagon is open to anyone that joins Voices for America's Troops. You don't have to keep membership.

I am with the Teachers Federal Credit Union through my parents. (Been there a while now).

I still have accounts in a few other big banks, but they have been used mainly for credit cards and bill payment.

As soon as they start charging for that, I will see about moving my $$ elsewhere.

I have for about half a year now. Everything has gone well, and the 4.09% interest is pretty much the best anywhere for risk free stuff. And like all (or at least most) credit unions, you can do your banking at pretty much any other credit union. And while their online banking isn't the most amazing, it is at least decent and works well enough.

Just make sure you'll be able to meet the qualifications for 4.09% (they give you your first month regardless, which is nice, as things like direct deposit sometimes take a little bit to get going).

4%??? The best CD rates I've seen are 2%. What's the downside/catch?

Got to have direct deposit or bill pay per month. Do at least 12 non-PIN transactions on your card, sign up for online banking and paperless statements. That's pretty much it. And its 4.09% up to $10,000. No fees, no nonsense, it really is what they say it is.

And no residency requirements as far as I know, and you can sign up online.

I guess one "catch" could be the one time $5 fee to become a member. And of course there is no guarantee that they will keep it at 4.09%, but its been at that number for quite a while now, and doesn't seem like they'll be changing it anytime soon.

Too bad, if the limit was higher I'd look into that. My current rewards checking is up to $25k at 2.55% (reduced a few months ago from 2.99% :().

The only thing I don't do right now is bill pay. Might be in for $10K.

I'd also mention that they also offer unlimited ATM fee refunds as long as you meet the rewards checking criteria that month.

Thanks for the info everyone. I've been with BofA since I was 17 and have never switched banks. How much of a hassle is it to get all my funds over?

Probably write a check for the majority of the money, leaving enough in BOA to not get fees for going below some minimum (like $50 or whatever). Deposit check at new place. Once everything all clears, go to BOA branch and close your account and get the $50 in cash. At least that's what I would do.

so 12 $1 transactions at the gas station?
or paying for each item one at a time at the supermarket?

aka the 12 transaction requirement can be satisfied in like 5min then the debit card can be shelved till next month?
