If so, do they work well for you? Which one are you using?

Seems like it would be very inexpensive to just make one yourself, abut I've seen them ranging from $20-$400. I'm considering getting one to help with my asthma and allergies. What do you reccomend?

I have a humidifier, and an air filter, but the air filter a) is really noisy and b) requires expensive filters.

edit: also, supposedly, an ion generator reduces ionizing and non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation...something an air filter won't do :)

I have/had a few of those Sharper Image ionizer's and they all failed. And Sharper Image Customer support is non existant. The darn things would do a great job removing small particles and soot from the air. But because they were trashy POS they would fail in about a year. Still looking for a good, well made ionizer.

The sharper image ionizers are a bit out of my price range anyway.

I remember I had a few small ionizers when I was younger, they seemed to work reasonably well, but my mom hated them because they essentially pulled all of the dust out of the air and deposited it on the furniture.
I'm not living at home anymore though. ;)
