Every morning I wake up with a really stuffy head and I was wondering if there is too much "junk" in the air in my house. I don't always have this problem when I stay at other places.

Do air ionizers and purifiers work very well?

Anyone use them?

Thanks.

Yes they do...
I was able to pickup the Ionic Breeze Quadra really cheap off the ebay ($100.00) and it works well.
I have had this device for about a month and I already had to clean it like four times.
I can not use the wipe included with the Ionic because it is too dirty already.
It smells strange, but it DOES pickup a various shi* out of the air...
g I can recomend it, but do not spend more than $150.00 on it...

I have an ionic breeze (was a gift) in the bedroom and I sleep a lot better with it on. Have to clean it a lot, which is a good thing.

Does it pull air through actively or is it a passive filter?

There was a big article in Consumer Reports a few years back.

Essentially what they said was that it was more beneficial to open your windows every once in a while.

the odor is Ozone. I think that's bad for you to breath in, thus the need to let fresh air in occasionally

The best thing to do is to have a combination of things. If you are living in a home, change the air filters for the entire house regularily. You should dust and wipe things down weekly. Have HEPA certified filters in each room, humidifiers (steam) to get whatever is left over to the floor. Also try getting a central vac system.

This should be an effective combination of things to do inorder to improve the air quality of your home.

I got a sharper image one from Christmas, I think it's really expensive, but it's currently broken, a "plastic tape" like thingy is cut inside.

Anyone knows where I can get it fixed?

why do you recommend a central vacuum system instead of a 'portable' system?

What is the difference between an air filter, ionizer, and air purifier?

There overall goal is the same, right? The just achieve it by different means?

Ozone being bad is up for debate. Some believe it is very healthy and they even inject a form of it into their veins.

I have an ionic breeze and I get annoyed with the noise it makes, otherwise I'd have to clean it very often. It's not too big of a deal to clean it but it's just more tedious maintenance, and it always seems to start producing noise again at 3am ruining my sleep. Then sometimes even cleaning it dosent make it stop producing annoying sounds and you have to go through routine of shaking it in every angle and flipping it around.

I use a Panasonic F-P15HU2 air cleaner in the bedroom and am very happy with it. You can set it to run continuously at three different speeds, or allow it to turn on as necessary when the sensor detects stuff in the air. Easy to clean and it's even wall mountable if you want.

Try getting your air ducts cleaned if your house is 7-10+ years old.

We charge $325 for a "normal" sized house to get the ducts cleaned. It's amazing what we find in the air ducts. The cold air returns are always the worst...unless you have toys/materials cloggin up some of your hot air vents (that happens A LOT).

If you are serious about getting an odor out of your house, get an air purifier that has an OZONE machine built in. We use a couple heavy duty ones and it's amazing how a house that smells terrible can smell perfectly clean just overnight.

Does this work for Indian households?

I have no idea WTF you're talking about.

Here's a helpful link:
