Anyone use a treadmill desk?

Awesome... me and my co workers always argue as to whether a plane can take off from a treadmill. Now we can know for sure.

How about this - the human body is not meant to sit down for 8-10 hours per day. Up until the last 50 years, the human body spent the vast majority of its time in two positions: standing up and laying down. Sitting is a new position that is required because of office jobs.

The desk treadmills allow you to work all/most/some of the day without needing to sit down. I think this will allow the human body to reverse the affects of being seated for most or all of the work day + the commute to/from the office.
 
I've had one but sold it.

Started with a standard desk and a Staples office chair but had back problems. Switched to standing but had foot problems. Then I switched to the treadmill desk.

I eventually resold it for numerous reasons. On the one hand it is fairly comfortable to walk while working. On the other hand it's impractical to do so barefoot which is how I like to work at home. They're also noisy, cumbersome to move, and they do break down eventually at a big cost to repair or replace. Also keep in mind that you're prone to shake/wobble your work surface slightly which gets annoying after a while. You'll need a sturdy desk with drawers/shelves of all your supplies nearby and not a crappy melamine table like the one in your link. They also do not offer a place to sit when you get tired and you will eventually get tired of all that standing/walking.

You can mitigate all of these issues in one way or another, if you're willing.

After that I switched back to a conventional desk with a Humanscale Freedom chair. Still had problems so I now have a fixed-height, custom built (by me) standing desk. I use Salli saddle for when I feel like sitting. I am thinking of switching out the gas cylinder for the tall version and getting the foot ring but am not 100% sure I want that bulk.

I am, however, getting my standing desk in the next couple of weeks. VERY excited about that.
 
I have a standing desk converter ordered. It goes on top of my current desk and comes with a mat. I'm excited about getting it, although I'll be on vacation when it comes in.

Why didn't you spend a few dollars to get blinds and curtains that don't look like they were recovered from Section 8 housing?

hahaha i was debating posing a question about the blinds too but held off. i think yours is better worded than mine would have been anyways!

Never figured I needed one. I can get away from the keyboard to get in some exercise.

Besides, I think I'd be shaking too much to get much done.

I think the treadmill desk is a great idea, but does not replace personal workouts.

How long did it take for you to get accustomed to the walking workday? my previous job I was walking/standing for 8 hours, so it was an easy transition for me
Can you be on the phone with the treadmill running or is there too much background noise? Surprisingly yes, but i have a pretty good noise canceling headset. and my model is old and noisy, so im sure a new one would be whisper quiet
How did you deal with the rocking of the desk?attached to the wall, does not touch the treadmill

Whelp, I got my Standee desk. So far, I like it. It is a good height and the mat that comes with is nice and cushy. I expect for the next few days my feet will be a bit sore. I have a monitor riser, since I am so short, and it takes up a good portion of the Standee, which so far seems to be the only drawback. This leaves me very little room to write. Although, for the first few days anyway, that will give me opportunities to sit and rest my feet.
