does it work? My sinuses have been congested for a week now due to a head cold, causing mucus to build in my throat which is blocking my air passage...out of ideas other than a neti pot.

Yes it does, but it takes a bit to get used to it. It's a weird feeling like if you are breathing in water.

Oh, make sure the water aint too hot, aint too cold. Use the little saline packet.

You'd be amazed how fucking sensitive the sinus cavity is.

I thought you were supposed to use saline solution instead of water no?
You make the solution by mixing the salt packet in distilled/purified water in the neti pot. You want the water as close to body temp before pouring into your nose.

Also, if the pot seems difficult to use, they also make a squeeze bottle version. There are also pre-mixed misters you can buy now. The solution is pressurized in a can and ready to use, so you don't have to worry about mixing. I recently bought one because I don't need to use it very often, and the convenience factor is nice. Worked well to loosen the mucus that was in my nose.

I don't find them useful. Also, I'm afraid to use them now since I don't distill my water.

Just get the nasal saline sprays. Not worth saving a few bucks over bacterial/amoeba getting to the brain.

I have used them with tap water for years...no issue. They work great and help you recover quick from sinus drainage.

Keep in mind that the "brain eating amoeba" has only about 35 cases in the past 12 years.

interesting...I was thinking about just buying bottles of saline solution and using that instead of tap water.

I just boil the water beforehand. Gives me a false sense of security :D

I think that works...that should kill an amoeba, right? I should probably do it anyways as Omaha has been rated some of the worst tap water in the country.

Some bacteria can still survive boiling temperatures. Can you put vodka in a neti pot?

Holy shit...I wonder how that'd feel :eek::eek::eek:

Would probably be pretty awful burning and maybe not healthy for your sinuses.

I had to use them for a while after getting sinus surgery to clean out all the blood and guts. They work, but I didn't really like using them. The one I had was like squeeze bottle with a very gently rounded nozzle that sealed up your nose so you could do it upright.

Some guy on YouTube did it with varies liquids, with the last being bourbon. Stupid, but it was nice of him to torture his nose for my amusement :^D

They're fairly popular in the snuff community, but I've never used one. I'd use boiled water, and a bit of salt. No point in spending much money for something so simple.
