Anyone use a Japanese PS2 memory card with an american PS2?

Apparently US memory cards for the ps2 are very hard to find (original ones that is), and this one I bought from BestBuy that requires a boot CD is really annoying me. I see lots of people on ebay selling Japanese ones, they all claim they work in American PS2's, but I want some first hand experience from someone who's tried it, not some ebay seller's listing (you all know how honest some sellers can be :|). Do they work just like american made memory cards? Or am I going to be stuck with needing a boot CD? TIA...

<< They don't work. Japanese don't have 0's and 1's like us. The machine will get confused. >>

Are you serious or just messing with me. I've never even tried it, I know games aren't cross compatible, I just wondered if the memory cards are the same or not.

I see no problems with it not working. I've READ NO WHERE that it won't work. I just checked my psw official memory card and it says its made from Japan anyway. It would be stupid of Sony and it would add more to the cost to limit peripherals to certain regions and countries. I am almost 100% sure that it will work.

Well, it seems strange to me that original PS2 memory cards are out of stock almost EVERYWHERE and the japanese ones are so numerous on ebay.

I guess I could live with booting to a CD first, but I'd rather not.

Edit: The Japanese cards I'm seeing are for the japanese market apparently, they've got japanese lettering on them in addition to saying "8MB memory card"
