Anyone use a DSL tweaking program?

Which one do you use?
Did it help?

My new DSL connection is SUCK!

I'm getting SCHOOLED in online gaming, and thats what I GOT it for!!! 🙁

I wasn't aware there were dsl tweaking programs.. 🙂 I think there were cable tweaking programs.

I get schooled in Counterstrike despite my decent ping.

Download DrTCP: <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.dslre
ports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe">http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe</a>

Run the program, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Start with:

MaxMTU - 1492 for DSL. 1500 for Cable

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

I did this a while back when you posted this before JackMDS and noticed running WinXP Pro that the default values didnt even come up with the program. I didnt have any trouble with the new setting so its all good. Not sure if its WInXP thing or just mine.
BTW, formatting and reinstalling your OS helps more then you know. I went from 715k avg tests to 1.173mb sec avg. tests. Made a huge improvment! 😀

Yeah, but that is like putting a New Engine in your car every time you need a tune-up.

It really depends on what you have on your computer and what is used for.

A lot of people have the basic OS with tones of media file, under such a condition it is very easy to reformat every other week. I have 10GB of working Bytes no media file, it will take me a week to reinstall, after formatting, and then I have to call and tell stories to software companies in order to get reactivation with out loosing multiple licenses.

It seem to me the a lot of us forget that some of us are actually making a living form the computers rather than use them as Music Boxes and Quake machines.
