Anyone use a big monitor in portrait mode?

I am still using an old Dell 2405 I got in 2005, and just now it struck me that most of what I do is Word documents and the web, so why not rotate it?

It's "only" 24 inches but boy does it seem enormous in portrait mode. I'm not sure I will stick with it... I do like the longer view, but it's just strange, and I don't really like "looking up" at the monitor so much. Also, it will probably stink for photo editing.

Anyone else try this? Did you get used to it, or switch it back?

Have used it on the secondary 1680x1050 monitor that sits to my left, and I don't think I'd want to go back to a widescreen landscape monitor as my secondary.

However I feel like I'd flip out if I had to deal a primary monitor in portrait mode. As you said, looking up on a 24-incher is silly.

Never tried it out but that must look really weird. I get that you need to scroll much less, but it kinda defeats the point when you have to "scroll" with your eyes 😀

I have a 24 inch NEC 2490 and use it in portrait mode a lot. I work from home quite a bit and using it in that mode allows me to see entire pages at one time. Very useful when you read a lot of patents.
