Autolok 2000

Looking for an anti-theft device.
It has some high ratings but I'd like to get an end user opinion. Has anyone tried this?

Domo Arigato :D

That'll probably work better than the club....after seeing Nicholas Cage take that steering wheel off in "Gone in 60 Seconds", I never respected the Club again. ;)

Looks like an upgraded "club to me"

I hear great things about that one device that goes around your clutch or brake pedel.

I've seen these products for sale online that can snap any anti-theft device, that consists of a bar, in half with little effort...

I don't have that, but I had something similar at one point. Something you should keep in mind is that such a thing would be freakin' huge. I usually kept it in my backseat, and while not a big deal, it became a bit of a nuisance to ppl. sitting back there, cuz it took up a lot of floor space.

The device you had that was similar to this, was it a Disklok?

Hmm, that Master Lock one is much cheaper & looks essentially the same thing.

You happy with it RishiS? Aside from the size & difficulty storing it.

i think the best is to make your own lojack using gps tracking like that guy did who was stalking his g/f (from other thread).

Yeah I liked it. (I gave it to my uncle to use tho') I own an Accord, and I wanted to protect the airbag, which is why I got it. The thing is definitely sturdy and does it's job well enough. I think I've actually seen autobarn sell it for $39.95 before. I guess a lot of ppl. don't buy it cuz of it's size.

Edit: Woohoo! I'm 1337. Well, sorta...

A bolt cutter would make that solution pretty useless...

Actually, the one that goes between your brake pedal and your wheel looks like a better solution to me...

But if someone want's it enough to try to steal it with any kind of anti-theft device on it, they will find a way...

taken from the site rishis linked:

"The easy to install Master Lock Maximum Security Steering Wheel & Airbag Lock protects your car as well as your airbag from being stolen."

Is airbag theft all that common?

Yup. I think my Accord airbag can fetch $1G on the black market.

Yeah, most club or bar like devices can be defeated by cutting the steering wheel in at most two places or by snapping it with a club buster like device.

At least these clamp on the steering wheel devices are not as easily to get at as the bar ones... but they are still not 100% breakproof.

A pro who wants your car bad enough will get it...

The whole point of ALL of these devices is theft deterrent, not theft prevention.

If someone wants your car badly enough, he's going to get it. I had a friend with a Trans Am with hand controls (he was in a wheelchair) where the theives took a flatbed truck and winched his car onto the truck and took it away.

If someone just wants *a* car, or an airbag, or whatever, and not *your* car, any of these devices would encourage a would-be thief to steal another car that takes less time and effort.

www.compustar.org

getting mine installed monday :D

as for club type devices, there was one that was advertised on tv, it locked around the break pedal. seems to make sence to me, their defense was that the break pedal was one of the strongest peices of metal on the car plus it being in a low spot, it would be very awkward for someone to try and cut it or the locking device.... i'ma going to try and find a link for you :)

linktified :)
