Basically want to know if I can upgrade the performance of my Z71 a tad, just not cutting it anymore in most games, not to mention running at a ws format.
Driver or firmware? You speak of two different things. You can use regular Nvidia drivers if you get a modified .inf file. Flashing the firmware of the card I would be fairly certain is impossible. Notebookforums would be the place to look, but if you haven't found something just by looking on Google, it's either a)non-existant, or b)highly experimental, and therefore, dangerous and risky.
I have tried using the manufactures website to download the driver updates, but for some reason I can use the updated drivers. So I want to know if I can trick the laptop into thinking its using a 6600 instead of a 6600 go.
No, it's fine. Just go here, download the driver, and the modified inf that you want. Remove your current drivers, go to update them, and go to the .inf file that you downloaded. Just make sure the two files are in the same folder.
