Well, I have a happy ending, sort of...

When I bought the widescreen Viewsonic, I gave my wife my current BenQ 19" LCD, to replace her old 17" CRT. My wife didn't like my old LCD - she thought it was "too tall". I let her try the new Viewsonic, and she felt much more comfortable with it. So I ended up giving her the Viewsonic widescreen and took back my old LCD.

My plan is to now eventually get a Dell 2405, or a Samsung 214T. The 2005FPW pixel size is too small for me, but the 2405 has larger 0.27 mm pixels, which I can "just" handle. (I know this, since my work LCD is a Samsung 213T with 0.27 mm pixels).

pixel size too small? What do you do that requires large pixels? Larger pixels means image quality is worse.

I hear you about the game aspect ratio thing. I can't get my 6800 GT to work correctly with the VS either. I wonder if it's a VS thing?

Just bought it from Fry's last nite for $350 b4 $50 MIR.

Plugged in my Gforce 5500 video card, it was automatically adjusted to 1440x900.
Generally, it's great. No dead pixel.
The base stand is just a cheap black plastic with out any metal plate.
The buttons are painted silver which look cheap.
Image are good although it's not as sharp and bright as my 17" Priceton SENergy 714. (Calibration would make it better?)
It comes with power and both DVI and SVGA cables.
Overall it's great in terms of money vs. performance.

Have any of you gone from a standard 19"LCD to this widescreen 19"? I want to do that but I'm not sure if I want to lose 2" of height and only gain 1" of width.

I'm sure those are only for using the d-sub analog output. The benq I just got for a friend is the same way, I can't use auto image centering and adjust when usinf DVI.

I just got one of these and have some backlight bleed as described above. It's only noticeable when the brightness is all the way up - I turned it down a little and can now only notice it when the screen is completely black, but it's negligible and I ordered mine online, so I'm afraid of getting one that's worse or has other dark spots or something. Other than a slight border of brighter areas (again, you can only see this on a black/blank screen) it's perfect. No dead pixels, etc.

Yes, the options to Auto or Manual image adjust won't show up for the DVI signal.

One small problem that I'm having is a strange one. The mouse at the right edge of the screen (WinXP SP2) doesn't "stop" like on other PCs I have - I can "throw" the cursor a good monitor's length out of sight and sometimes have to sideways scroll a lot with the mouse to get it back.

I had the habit with my laptop of moving the mouse quickly to the upper right hand corner to close windows, but now if I do that with this one the cursor flies offscreen.

Any ideas? I'm just using the onboard video now on my ASUS nVidia 6150 motherboard, but I can't find any options to constrain the mouse or set the screen area, &c.

D'oh. Nevermind about the above. It seems that it was adding the VGA output as an extended desktop monitor. Unchecking that stopped the mouse from going over into oblivion.

Anyone ever solve the scaling issues with this monitor? I can't put up with stretched non-WS games. Black bars are ok, stretched images are not.

i bought the VA1912wb at frys for $350-50mib a week ago. Quite like it, though I don't play much in the way of 3d games anymore. It's a great screen considering the price. Compared to the hyundai L70n (the only lcd i have to compare it to), it's head and shoulders above. It's not as good as my old 21" sony e540 crt in its prime (sigh), but it's a decent replacement for my budget. Easy on the eyes as well.

Well, I've been using this one for a solid two months now, and I love it.

I haven't had any scaling issues, but I usually play newer games (well, newish) like Half-Life 2, GTA: San Andreas, Oblivion, Ghost Recon, Quake 4, The Godfather, and the new Tomb Raider.

Anyway, no problems with any of them regarding scaling. They all have widescreen modes and everything looks great.

Even for games that don't have widescreen modes the difference between 16:12 (standard squarish screen) and 16:10 isn't really that pronounced. It's only somewhat noticeable in older games like Doom 2 (Doom 3 is fine).

What are you trying to play that isn't scaling right?

P.S. Just got an email from NewEgg a few days ago letting me know it was back in stock. I originally was going to order it from them... back at the end of January. They finally got them in. Only $250 there. I paid $300 (after my $50 rebate, which came in last week).

Just an FYI.

It could be the power frequency. Power frequencies are 60 Hz in the U.S., and 50 Hz in Europe. I work in the U.S. for a U.K. based company, and we sometimes have trouble with parts that do not like the higher freqency in the U.S.
