Has anyone tried the new drivers for the ATI Radeon (ver. 4.13.7072)? They were posted on ATI's website (http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/winme/winme_4137072_sp.html) on Jan. 16th with the following disclaimer:

"This is a Special Purpose Driver which is optimized for OpenGL and DirectX 8. This driver is undergoing final qualification tests before general release. It is not supported at this time."

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried these drivers and what your experiences have been, any problems or noticable benefits?

Thanks,

agaraffa

I've been using them for a few days. They seem nice and stable, not sure about performance gains as I haven't run any benchmarks.

The purpose of these drivers isn't really to offer performance gains though, it's more to fix small glitches in certain programs/games etc.

I'm holding out for the mythical unified drivers (as Taz would put it ;)). Hopefully, they'll be something like the Detonator 3's, although I'm certainly not holding my breath.

They work well for the most part. Quake 2 takes a pretty big frame rate hit. Strange. Everything else seems good.

I've found my games to have the same performance and about the same image quality as 7068's. Like snow patrol said, they mostly just fix some glithces with specific games or programs.

so far it seems almost the same in most games for me. might be tad bit darker but increased my frags by a little. No problems. OH it fixed the diablo2 hand icon problem. now it runs fine in D3D.
