From the sounds of it he's looking for something that provides decent isolation, Grados definitely do not.
A decent pair of circumaural closed headphones would probably best emulate what Bose has.

If you're more serious about your audio and have money to spend, you might want to go with a little more expensive Sennheisers.
Be sure and get a headphone that is comfortable. It doesn't matter how great the headphone sounds if you can't even stand to wear it for any decent length of time. ie. I first purchased a pair of Grado SR60, but these type of headphone rest completely on top of your ear. I couldn't stand for my ears to be pushed down for very long and have since sold the SR60's on ebay and bought the pair of Sony V6's.
