As to the Venice core, (I do not have one) Monarch computers advertises MOBO CPU combos that are pretested with updated bios if necessary for a small fee. They only had the Venice in OEM last I checked.

I believe 3.3b3(?latest?) was the bios version mentioned , but I do not recall where that thread was.

I have been watching threads here and at the MSI support forum

I used this board for my first build, and it's been great. Get yourself a cheap sound card though; $25 should do it. The Realtek onboard audio is crackly, and it has been a problem for a lot or people with the Realtek chip on various boards, not just this model. There is a new BIOS on MSI's site (3.4), and the sole function of this BIOS update is to support the Venice revision, so no worries.

Hi!

Tying to find out if there is possible to use 2x1Gb ram`s with this board with dual support. Not the ones that are testet with this board, can`t find these ram`s in Norway. Mayby geil value, or corsair value select pc3200! :)

I used this motherboard for my first build. Everything works great so far. I haven't had time to test out all the features, but so far so good. I used a Venice core Athlon 64 3000 on it and it detects it perfectly. I don't have access to the comp right now so I can't say what BIOS version.

Specs:

Kingwin Mutant X case with 420W PSU (20pin)
Athlon 64 3000 Venice
Rosewill 2x512MB 2.5-3-3-7
NEC DVD-RW
Maxtor 60GB ATA133

I have this board and I like it a lot. Its my first AMD since the early Athlon days.

Here is the story.

My life is very busy right now so I did not want to spend time researching hardware
and building a new system.
I went to Best Buy and purchased a HP Pavilion a1129n for $600 that has this motherboard with an Athlon 64 3400+ with 512 Ram.

I have added an additional 512 Ram

I called MSI and ordered a MSI BIOS chip for this board. ( $20 shipped )

I added an X800 XL

Added a cheap $20 sound card

Changing the BIOS chip caused my Windows Media Center Edition to be non-valid
so I changed to XP Pro ( I was lucky enough to have an extra legal licence )

This system blows away my home built system. ( 2.4 Ghz P4 with 6600GT and 1 gig ram )

San Andreas plays MUCH better on my new system.

Its seems rather odd to have a nice PC in a HP case. :)

Peace
Rich

that is definitely cool that you were able to order the bios chip.

i think this board is definitely a solid board. of the rs480 boards it might not be the best performer, or tweaker, but at least you know its quality and get good support etc and it tends to be price competitive with ecs / jetway models.

the emachines athlon 64 machines also use this board btw.

Is there any hardware monitoring software that supports this board yet (for voltage monitoring)?
