I tried deleting the file, it reappears.

I tried replacing it with a fake iexplore.exe, it magically converted that file to the original iexplore.exe

Has anyone been able to delete the file or remove the program?

I was under the impression that ever since win98, IE was pretty much built into the system (almost any window you open is esencially opening IE - for example, explorer and control panel). I don't think you can get rid of it

...but how about replacing the file with another one with the same name?

If a new version of Internet Explorer comes out, I'm sure that iexplore.exe is updated with a newer version. There must be something that tells the OS stating whether its a user messing around with the "crucial OS files" or a legitimate update/patch program.

I wonder if anyone knows anything about this.

When an update is performed, it registers that with the OS. You just can't rename a "dummy" file and have that work.

Why in world are you doing this anyway??? Maybe if we knew what you were trying to accomplish....
