I assume if someone is using the hard drive for final cut pro, this probably isn't the one to get? or am I wrong?

Oh we have a mac book pro, 15", core duo.

what do you mean? SSD is still going to be the best, but there are reviews on FCP and this drive out there.

Looks like it shaves 2/3 of the load times off.

I found a friend in the US who I can ship to. Does he need to be at home to sign for the package or does it just go into the mailbox? The free shipping offerred by newegg is UPS Guaranteed 3 Day Service.
muchos gracias.

I have never had newegg require a signature.

got my mbp, installed it, and works just fine. no beachballing, no vibration issues, no nothing. works as advertised and holy hell, its fast!

edit - also installed the firmware from the seagate forums too. turns off the auto spindown so if there was any chance of beachballing (waiting for the drive to spin up), its gone now. firmware got updated from SD22 to SD23. used a blank cd-rw and it installed just fine.

I just made some nice change from selling my iPhone 4 (re-ordered another one online.. 3 week wait) so I may finally be able to use some of it to invest in this HD. What are your usual program usage patterns?

mail, safari, adium, tweetie, itunes, textedit, aperture, imovie, CoRD, cyberduck, dashboard, terminal, activity monitor, toast titanium, transmission, vlc, pages, numbers, keynote, and system preferences. all of them load pretty much instantly now. its awesome :)

awesome.

What did you do with your old HD? I may get an external 2.5" FW enclosure and finally make use of the MBP's FW800 port.

I have been using a 500gb XT in my 2010 13 MBP for almost a week now. Boot times were drastically reduced after two or three reboots. Times were around 50s with the stock and less than 20s now. Also my most used apps load almost instantly. It really is a great buy right now with SSD prices so high.

I used Carbon Copy Cloner. It worked fantastic. Word of advise, after you clone the drive the first boot may be really slow, if so once in OSX go into system preferences, Startup Disk and choose the new drive, mine defaulted to Network Boot and than added almost a minute to my boot times!

Good to hear the drive works well in yours, I just ordered one for my macbook based on your post.

I bought this macbook pro yesterday and so far I am loving it. Been pining over them for years, finally decided to actually buy one.

I also have an 8gig kit of memory coming for it as well, so it will be a nice upgrade before i get too into it. Should not have to clone much over.

It's working great in my 2010 MBP 15. No hiccups or slowdowns. The cache is easily overrun though. If I just bootup and surf the web only, the next boot is really fast. If I use the MBP heavily including using VMware + Win7, FCP, and Aperture, the next bootup is slow. I'm assuming the ssd cache is being overwhelmed by the heavy app usage.
