I'm pretty sure they get "recertified" and sold again.

Yes it can either resell it as refurbs or use it for RMA but not resell it as brand "new" since it's against the law in most states.

I'm really glad that eVGA decided to allow a G80 Step-Up. There were enough rumors that they were going to exempt it that I decided to go right for the 8800GTX instead of buying a lower eVGA card and then signing up for Step-Up toward the end of 90 days (in case the prices dropped in that time). However, I'm really happy for those that already had the cards that they were able to sign up! Makes me glad I bought an eVGA!

(hey...I can register the card and go for the G81 step-up! LOLZ...not in the next 90 days!)

Holy Smoke!
I was #81 yesterday and already received an email from eVGA for the purchase verification (invoice) of my current card.
This step-up has happened so fast which means, plenty in stock with prices are a bit too steep to move inventories. Wait until BF for the deeper discounts, I'd say.
Decision?

I will wait til the very last day and make a decision from there. If the price doesn't change, I'm keeping my 7900GTO.

Me too. I'm sending invoice as I speak! Can't wait to get his beast and dump the constant SLI problems. ;)

Same here. I also got my verification e-mail today. I figure I will step-up now and also pick up a G80 refresh card later on for a Shuttle SFF I am planning early next year.

Maybe the quick turnaround is a good sign for those looking for reduced prices later on as it seems like there are plenty to go around. Suggested retail prices usually don't change but "street" prices usually do after a month or so.

I've now been stuck at #15 and #16 in the queue all week. The initial supply of 8800GTXs may have dried up.

Finally notified today that both step-ups were ready. Cancelled one (two 8800gtx's are too rich for my blood with the holidays approaching). I just resubmitted the other one and am 370 in the queue.

That should take me through the next billing cycle on my credit card.
