Is it possible? Has anyone tried?
For the GTS it says "currently on backorder" if you try to buy it from the website.

But, anyone know whether G80 will even be available for Step-UP??

Edit: I just realized...eVGA has it priced at $500US. I might as well just sell my 7900GTO and buy it here in Canada rather than deal with shipping and possible customs charges.

If a card is backordered on our website, you will be placed into a queue for the card.

Any rough idea on how long it will take to get put through the queue? Just impatient here, but I can live with a 7950GX2 for a few more days. :D

For those wondering, I was in the que for the 7900GTs (ah, back when I had money) and it didn't take long at all. I think I was around #50, and it took under a week IIRC.

It really depends on how many people are in queue. The sooner you get in that queue, the sooner you will get it. Sorry, don't really have any estimates I can give you. :p

Thanks for the heads up. For some stupid reason, I thought the card would not be available for step-up yet. I'm 119 and 120 in the queue. I'm pleasantly surprised there's not already a thousand people in the queue.

Here's a question, if you've got more than 30 days left before your step-up rights expire, does it make sense to wait? Isn't it likely the price for the G80 will fall in the next month?

I learned my lesson from the 7900 days. Get in now or you'll be in for a long, long wait.

EVGA rarely drops price on their site.

As long as you've entered the queue you will still be eligible, even if you go past 90 days while you are in it.

Should you cancel for any reason, you will not beable to get back in the queue (if your 90 days are up).

Prices will drop some between now and Christmas I'm thinking. The biggest price change will come when other models come out and thats not till February according to latest rumors. Although it wouldnt suprise me if nVidia moved those new releases up to sometime in January.

That may be true but for only e-retailers such as ZZF or the Egg not for eVGA however.
My queue has dropped from #85 to #81 in less than 24hrs which means plenty in stock and Nvidia may pressure card mfgs to drop price even more to move the inventories.

#76 in queue for a 7900GTX to 8800GTX step-up.

I completed the online form on Nov. 8th in the afternoon.

I've moved up three spots since last night. That suggests to me that a very small number of cards are being alloted to step-up, at least, initially.

Frankly, I'm hoping it takes a while since it's going to cost me $828 to step up both my cards. Combine that with the new power supply I'm going to need to run these beasts in SLI and I'm looking at over a grand to play computer games.

Man, how did I get to this point? I may need some kind of intervention.

I'm pretty sure they get "recertified" and sold again.
