Anyone tried Gametap.com?

I emulate every pre-32bit console out there so the concept is absolutely useless to me (certainly on a monthly fee structure), but I am curious as to how good this service is. I figure the controls would not feel the same--not bad, just not correct.

Well, at least the games don't look like Flash rewrites in the ads.

Okay then, over/under on when they go belly-up? I'm thinking from the media campaign blitz that they might have enough VC to last them the underside of... 12mos?

they will be around for a bit IMO, they will sign deals with hotells and airlines so thet can offer this to their guests which will keep them afloat for a bit, i dodnt see it doing much in the general consumer area, there arnt hough gamers that are hardcore enough to want to play games that are 10 years old for 10$ a month or wwhatever it costs

I did. I used it about 2 times, and ended up paying for a month of it before I cancelled because I forgot to cancel before my trial was up. It was ok. I may have had a better experience if I had a faster connection because the newer games took me up to an hour to load on my 1.5 meg dsl connection. The interface was nice, and game selection was ok. I think the mistake I made was trying it right as it launched. I would imagine their game selection will be a lot better in a few months. All in all it was a good service. My only real complaint is they force you to call an operator to cancel, and they have no online account management features. At the time I tried it I couldn't justify spending $15 a month on it. The games I wanted to play either took too long to load, or I could just emulate them for free.

Console emulation isnt exactly general public knowledge
Of course not, but you'd have to think that they are squarely targeting nostalgic, tech-savvy Gen-X/Yers who would know about console emulation (as opposed to the less technical ppl who end up with those tv-connectable Hong Kong boxes with the built-in games). Or at least that's how I figure it.

I have it for the boys and to tell the truth its not half bad. YES it takes forever to load a real windows game but that only happens the one time. The first time you run the game it installs almost the entire game to the hdd. After that and you go to play a 2nd time it takes 15 seconds to load.

I like it and the kids love it and at $15 a month I would spend alot more then that on games for each of them so it kinda actually saves me money. And it does more then just old consoles but does some dreamcast games and quite a few windows based games. It will be a matter of time since they have dreamcast stuff that maybe ps1-2, xbox, and gamecube games will follow suit???

I honestly didn't realize it loads it to the hdd after the first time. That's good to know... more than likely I'll try the service again here in a few months after they add more games.
