So i got a cold and doc gave me a cough syrup w/codeine.
Its scary..coz like i take a spoonful and it makes me all gooey...and light..
and almost high...and i can feel my body loosen up and i sleep like a baby.
Best sleep ever...

now the cold is almost gone but i feel myself going for the half-empty bottle
every night coz it just makes me feel sooOO good...it shouldn't be a problem
right?...coz once i run out...i run out.
Its just now i really can appreciate what it feels like to be addicted to a drug..
and i used to scoff when some celebrity said they were addicted to cough-medicine...i
was like...'wtf?'

Your body metabolizes Codeine into morphine...that's why you feel so good.

Any yes, it is quite nice feeling....but quite habit forming. That's why they don't offer refills on them ;)

i just read its derived from opium....aaah...the love of my forefathers...
no wonder it runs so well in my blood...
man it makes me feel so good...
i vote it 100x better than sleeping pills.

of course it also states:

WARNING: May be habit forming.

I have a few extra pills around from when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. They are great for when things get really painful, but that is quite rare.

It kinda sucks compared to hydrocodone but I doubt they make any cough syrups with that. :)

Actually they do - tusonex (sp?) is one of them and I have half a bottle of it in the cabinet :D I may have been wrong too. I think it's hydrocodone that is metabolized into morphine, not codeine.

i think i'm gonna stash that 1/2 bottle away and only use it when i really need to...
like when i really need a good night's sleep.
it knocks me out for 10hrs easy..with high quality rest too.

vi_edit, you had it right the first time.. its codeine that metabolizes to morphine.

Yup that stuff can be QUITE addictive. The only other thing that ever gave me that kind of feeling (short of an IV) was Ambien - more powerful than the codene painkillers actually. The doctor told me to take the Ambien and then go straight to bed. He wasn't kidding either. I'd take it and 10 minutes later, WHAM! I was on cloud nine. The thing was, if you managed to stay awake (which my ridiculously strong insomnia was easily up to the task for) you'd have a blast for about the next 30 minutes feeling FAR beyond any other drunken stage I've experienced. There were even a couple times I'd wake up the next morning and find stuff lying around with absolutely NO clue how it got there. I can see why people abuse and get addicted to that one. Even though I wasn't using and abusing it for recreational purposes, I quickly built up a tolerance to it where it did nothing at all for my insomnia. I finally stopped taking it after awhile and haven't tried it since.

My moms doctor gave her Tylenol 3 by the bucket, hydrocodone, morphine, epracept (sp?), Norflex and a ton of other stuff she couldn't take because it upset her stomach. She put them all down the toilet.

Hydrocodone didn't do anything for me. Just made me numb and sleepy.
