OMFG, I'm not kidding, this stuff is boring the hell out of me. Every other day (my skool is on block schedule) my teacher assigns us 30 pages to read and its VERY detailed... so boring... I'm starting into angiosperms. Even worse are the notes even though they are extra credit, it's hard to get an A in that class without them.

Took, thought was dense but interested me. Got 4 on the AP exam, B+ in class 1st Sem, A- 2nd Sem. It is ALOT of readin but that's the nature of it. Biology is such a diverse field that it requires a large amount of reading. Just wait until college, gets much more detailed though more specific.

I never really read any of the readings on time, but just took my notes in class while i was spacingout/doodling. Surprisingly i got 2 A's in that class :) Now the AP test is gonna be a a diffrent story..

Our class was illuminated by the teachers laptop/projector and the exit sign i staired at all day. We left the classroom on test days if we finished early. And once we did an outside activity where we got in a long chain and made a protien

Well, I do have the highest grade in the class, but that's mainly b/c i just absorb what i read in the textbook... not much studying required, but still the reading is so boring - as boring as those SAT passages

I took AP Bio my senior year. My teacher was REALLY easy going. The class was so easy. I don't remember doing any studying. We also took a trip to California to see the tidepools and go to Seaworld. It was awesome.
Edit: spelled Seaworld wrong:eek:

My AP Bio teacher was pretty cool - she made everything easy :D

But - I don't know how that would have effected me on the AP test (since I slept in on the day of the test). I had taken two biology courses in HS - one in 10th grade that was "dual enrolled" with the local community college, so I got both HS and College credit - and the AP Bio class. I wasn't worried about going to the AP test because by dual enrolled class earned me my general biology credit :p

Took it, got a 5, got 8 credits for college, which is half of a semester's coursework. Best course you can take in school :)
And yes, it's a lot of reading. But you are reading good and interesting stuff.

I took it and got a 5, the most interesting part IMO is the stuff about evolution. I too Bio 2 and spent all the time on boring genetics, and AP Bio got to the interesting stuff.

I got a 5 and it removed my science requirement in college. When I look at the work those people have to do, I am thankful that our teacher didn't know anything and just let us do whatever we wanted to learn the material.

I actually enjoyed the class, we had a good teacher...even tho I didn't go on to do anything in medicine (which I probably should have), I got a 4 on the AP, with very little studying and effort. <sigh> how I miss high school. ;)

Sure. Took it Sophomore year of hs. Got a B and an A, 5 on the test. I liked the class. I didn't read too much for it. Teacher was a great lecturer and his assignments prepared me well for the AP. Between that and Chem I only had to take physics in college.

I personally don't reccomend AP Bio if you haven't taken reg bio at first, and most schools have it this way. Also, I think chem would help a bit too, but then again, I think maybe I should have taken chem, bio, and physics at the same time as they very much inter-twine with each other.

If you take bio then AP, passing the AP exam should be relativley easy.

IMO, the AP Bio exam was easy, tho I wish I would have scored higher. Only got a 3 (prob due to essay portion). Also got a 3 on AP eng 1, but didn't pass the AP US history....AP US History is like the hardest exam to pass.

edit: Oh, and if you are taking an AP class just for the extra gpa point thingy; don't. It's really a silly reason to take the class just for your gpa. GPA isn't the whole point of highschool, although a lot of college's aceptance rubrics may make you feel otherwise.

AP Euro is generally agreed upon as the toughest one b/c of the amount of material.

<-- got a 4 on Euro, 3 on US.

I got either a 4 or 5, I forget it was a while ago. We got to disect pigs, I think we named ours Piglet (we also had Babe and Notorious PIG). Castration was the hardest thing I had to do in that class.

Don't worry too much. :) AP Bio was my worst class by far in high school. I ended up with somewhere around a C-/D+ IIRC, because I just didn't give a sh*t...it bored the living hell outta me.

Then in college I majored in Bio and quickly grew to love it. True, there is still a ton of reading involved (so learn to at the very least tolerate it) but, like jarfykk said, the details make it much more interesting. More importantly, once you start taking real lab courses you can actually witness firsthand some of the facts behind what you've been taught, and get practical experience instead of that random trivia they feed you in lectures.

Then finally when you get into 300+ level courses you can begin learning straight from primary literature (no more textbooks!). That's when you will finally get the impression that you're dealing with actual *science*, not just history...that you're really on the cutting edge of human knowledge.

It's an awesome feeling when you ask your professor to clarify something from a recently published paper, and for the first time he says "I can't answer that" not because *he* doesn't know, but because NOBODY knows. Cool stuff.
