BEHOLD! Such is the power that I have mastered this night!
Well not really, but what you see is the end result of my first attempt at making my own beer. It's just been bottled for about an hour now, and needs to sit in the closet you see in the pictures for another 2 weeks while the final bit of sugar I put in while bottling it makes the carbonation. The closet is in our smallest bedroom, and that's why I couldn't get in there to get a really good picture, but you can at least get the idea. Total was 49 bottles made in the end, and it smelled great while I was bottling it. I'm hoping it's the first of many good batches to come.
😀

So who wants to drive to VA and come to the tasting party?

EDIT: I forgot, there was some kind of smear on my camera lens, I've cleaned it off now but I don't feel like taking the pics again.

me and a friend tried making some beer once, when i was younger.

friend's dad found it and dumped it before it was done. argh!

Ouch! That's gotta be harsh. How old were you when you tried to make it?

I'm thirsty. Stupid surgery.

At least I get milkshakes!

mmmmmm

Got your tonsils out?

Link

They had to put a bunch of stitches and stuff in where my tooth was. I have to bite down on cotton for like 2 days. It makes eating impossible and drinking difficult. It's very bloody.

I'd be pissed. But if I was your friends dad I'd finish it myself then drink it

Ahh, a Hokie. I'll probably be down for the WVU/Va Tech game this year (football). My roomate was a Hokie too... good luck with the beer!

I'm down here in Blacksburg, living off Main Street in Virginia Tech

Hey, I live in Hillsville just 40 minutes up I-81 and make beer too! Got into making beer after I left Germany and wanted a good stout dark bock. Best of luck with your first brew.

Save some for me too, I will be up there on September 18 for the A&M-VT game. You guys were pretty cool when you came to College Station last year.

How much did it cost to make all that? Just curious.. 🙂

The equipment was about $100, that includes the brewing kit, 5 gallon stock pot, and $25 of that was the actual ingredients and bottle caps. So basically, 50 beers is about $25-$28 after the initial equipment purchase, and it's not cheap, non-flavorful beer, it's looking and smelling like a Killians or another dark beer.

<-----can't wait for 2 weeks to go by.

How was your first batch? I've heard stories that some people had horrible first batches, and others had some of the best beer they've ever tasted. How long was it before you could start designing your own flavors (bit more hops, little less grain, different flavor malts, etc.)?
