This is in response to a post I made. This talks about whether or not welfare should be given to people who do not try to go and look for a job, but sit at home boozing it up, and getting their welfare check.
You're on a t-roll buddy, keep up the racism and hate speech!

Er, of course. 'Cause welfare only exists to give money to lazy people that can work but don't feel like it.

I make little money (probably compared to what most of you make) and the little I make goes to pay my tuition and food. However, I believe if that welfare money can really help at least somebody it is worth it in the end. Just my 2 cents

This is a P&N thread.

But I think the restrictions, regulations, and requirements on welfare need to be set much higher.

Things like requiring all welfare recipients to pass a money management course and require them to document their purchases in order to ensure that their money, regardless of whether it's the portion that comes from welfare or their job, is going to the right places.

Welfare recipents should be driving used cars, watching normal sized TVs on non-cable channels and not be spending money on alcohol and tobacco.

Yes, it sounds asinine, but if this was required, how would the amount of welfare paid out not be refined to people that actually need it?

even most of the people in this country with college degrees and decent paying jobs are lazy dumb bums just trying to buy as much as they can. pretty much everybody in college except engineers and science majors do very little for 4 years at a school supported by taxpayers and then expect a ton of money when they graduate

We received assistance from the government but my parents still had to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day AND I had to help them with their work. We took the bus together to their job and worked min. wage. WELFARE alone would not be able to pay for our rent or food...it helped a small portion, perhaps 10% if even. YOu think a lot of your tax paying money goes to welfare? Think again.

Yes, I understand there are lazy people who rely on welfare for help. But trust me, a lot of them are doing something on the side to survive. These days, a family of 7 gets about $200 a month cash and about $400 on food stamp. Do you think they could survive on that alone? And these figures are taking from FIRST hand account because I still have relatives who need assistance from the government because their limited English skills could not lend them a decent job.

thanks for sharing your story to balance out the thread.

I'm not trying to insult you, so dont take it as a personal attack.
With that said, dont you think its incredibly irresponsible to move somewhere and EXCEPT help? maybe your family should have learned English BEFORE moving here. That would have made things easier.

I would like to receive welfare. For some reason I'm not qualified for any job I apply to, any disability, or welfare pay. How am I expected to live? There are only so many ATOTers willing to let me spend a weekend in their tub.

If they had the money or time to learn english in their homeland, then they wouldn't be working strenuously and making ends meet here in the U.S. They obviously weren't happy with their lives there and wanted a better one by moving to America. Use your head and just think about it. Who's the dumbass now?

Basic english isnt Doctorate level engineering man. If you dont have the time/money to learn basic english there who says you will have it here? I am thinking about it. And I'm wondering what the hell would make someone move half way around the world with nothing but the clothes on your back.....Unless you knew you could stand in the handout line and get a freebie courtesy of people like you and me....aka...TAX PAYERS

America. The land of opportunity. That's basically the main reason.

Right, I'm sure that's how immigrants back then saw it. Come to America with a dream to succeed, but beneath it all just live off the American government.

Most people that come to America don't want to learn English as a fluent second language, just only as much as they have to to get by. They see it as giving up their heritage and culture if they use English as their everyday language instead of their native language. At least that's what happened with my great grandmothers. They could understand English, speak a little bit of it, but would only talk in German and Polish, even after being in the country for more than 70% of their lives.

So grubbing off of tax payers, no. Not wanting to give up their heritage, as crazy as that may sound to some people, yes.

You, sir, are a complete idiot. You do realize that nearly all people on welfare aren't lazy bums, don't you? They are people working hard who are in a bad situation and are having a hard time supporting their family.

I do not mind at all having my money go to them. And if a small amount of it has to go to lazy bums so that they can get it, I'm OK with that too.

That idea seems to be working well for France doesnt it?

While its important to know your heritage, when you move to another country its also just as important if not more so you try to integrate into the existing culture.

In my opinion, you're both idiots. He's saying that nearly all people on welfare are lazy bums, and you're saying the opposite. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

I think we should have some sort of safety net, but we do have a lot of abuse of the welfare system. For a few years I worked in a ghetto grocery store, and I saw the first hand results of abuses in the welfare system - typical stories of people driving luxury cars yet getting getting food stamps, WIC, and AFDC.
Unacceptable.

Again, I'm all for a reasonable welfare system that helps only those people who truly do need help and I think our current system (or rather oversight of recipients of welfare) needs to be overhauled.

As long as there is a system designed to give assistance to some, many will try and succeed at taking advantage of that system. I hate welfare for the simple reason that a few bad apples have spoiled the bunch and they are doing it on my dime.

I sympathize with those that truly need it but unfortunately for you some of your fellow recipents taint the entire picture. Welfare reform will only come from those that recieve it. If you get welfare generally speaking you know and live around others that also get it, chances are you personally know people who are taking advantage of the system, when the truly needy start turning in the ones just milking the system then we will have progress in this ass backwards system.
