I am itching to get a new Conroe system, but DDR2 prices are making me think twice about it. Would there be much of a performance drop if I were to run a Conroe with a single 1-gig stick (so I can add another down the road)?
I didn't write the numbers down but in most of the things I used it was on the low end of 2% or less.....The C2D chips are not very bandwidth limited...
The strap is the more important thing to worry about. When running my 5300 ram modules at 401(802) FSB I would get around 4700GB/s. When I lowered the FSB to 400, to avoid the strap my bandwidth jumped to 6700GB/s!! Sorry if this is kinda off topic, but a 2 gig increase in bandwidth is too sweet to not talk about
I get 6488 with single channel and 7600 with dual channel...
I use to get a bigger jump from single to dual on my A64 andwe all know how worthwhile those perforance increase were in the real world....Almost nill...5% or less on the A64's...The hit to running 2t was almost as worse...
Thanks for all the input guys. I guess I am all out of excuses not to upgrade. It will be so nice to finally be rid of the nForce 3/ nVidia 6800 issue.
