Anyone taken a hot air balloon ride?

I'm thinking about taking a hot air balloon tour of the Grand Teton National Park to get some cool pictures and I'm wondering if anyone here has done this before.

I found 2 companies in the area that do tours, both are $295 and say the flights last around an hour (I really wish it was longer).

I have no issues with the cost, but want to make sure it'll be worth my while.

Make sure you start lighting a cigarette while you are up in the air and see what they say.

"Smoke 'em if you got 'em!!!!"

"Noooooooooooo!"

Yes, I have and it's worth it. There's nothing quite like floating in the air in eerie silence. You can hear dogs barking for miles. And it's not like peering out of the window of a plane. You can actually gaze at the landscape for as long as you want. The neat part for me was when we descended, scraped the treetops with the basket and floated over people's backyards. Some kids lying on trampoline looked up and waved. The world really looks a LOT different from above.

Do it. You can make the $300 back. You won't be able to earn an experience like a hot air baloon ride sitting at work. GO.

Totally agree here.

I did a hot air balloon ride for $200 7-8 years ago. While up, we had a guy in a red baron prop plane do tricks for us in the distance. The balloon pilot also took us right up on the forest canopy where we were resting slightly on the treetops.
Let's just say, it's totally worth the money. Do it!

Oral sex in the balloon should be included for that price.

I'll ask my Mom, but I doubt she'll be down for that.

You will never know until you ask.

Also where are pics of said mom?

My mom's Amish, so no pics.

It steals her soul? 😉

No, because all Amish people are really ugly.

$300 for a balloon ride over Grand Canyon? .. Yes

I don't know if I'd have the balls to do a balloon ride over the Grand Canyon, that sounds terrifying. 😱

I agree the Grand Canyon would be cool, but how can you say the GTNP wouldn't?

Recommend you pass ... $300 is ridiculous (per person) unless the scenes are absolutely breathtaking. For $300 (per person) you can grab a plane to many interesting places ... round trip.

That's a good point. I remember looking at helicopter tours of the Florida Keys and it wasn't as expensive as this.

you could fly across the country for less than $100.

$300 for a 1 hour balloon ride? LOL

Tis true ...

I travel at least once a month for business and most of the planes are at or near 100% capacity. Fares are so low that just about anyone can afford to fly. Gone are the days when you could get on a plane, eat a nice (free) meal (with silverware) in coach and have three or more seats to yourself.

Those were the days ... they will be sorely missed.

THe experience is NOT the same. $300 is worth it. In a heli you're hearing the deafening noise of the chopper blades and you can only peer down a window and the ride is over pretty quick. In a baloon, you're floating free and can hear the world. Again, it's an experience all to itself and the high price is due to the insane insurance that baloon operators have to pay. $300 is chump change. Besides, if you buy a plane ticket, what are you going to do? Wander around the airport for an hour? Sure the airfare is cheap but unless you're willing to rent a car and go out and DO something wherever you go, it's going to cost you more anyway. RIDE THE GODDAMN BALOON.
