I am allergic to oak tree pollen, and I am using a neti or neti pot to keep my sinuses clean this year, I think they work as I am taking a lot less allergy meds this season. Thank god tree pollen season is almost over in my area.

I have terrible springtime allergies and take Allegra and Naseral. People who don't get springtime allergies will never understand how bad they can be...

Ditch the "D", people. That means it has pseudophedrine in it -- legal crank IMO. Nasty.

Pick ONE medication. Do NOT mix all of those. No wonder you have problems.

For itchy eyes, nothing but eyedrops work for me. Specifically, eyedrops with "Cromolyn" as the active ingredient. In the US it is a prescription eyedrop sold under the name "Crolom" by Bausch and Lomb, in Canada it is known as "Opticrom" or "Vistacrom" brands. The active ingredient is also known as cromolyn sodium, cromoglicic acid, cromoglycic acid, or sodium cromoglycate.

More Information: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202168.html

For me, this has been the only eyedrop that will stop pre-existing itching. (It burns like all get-out if you apply it to itchy eyes though.) There are some others that will prevent itching, but this is the only eyedrop I have tried that will stop itching once it has begun.

yellowfiero, how long have you been using Singulair?

I live in Iowa...I see you live in Michigan. When is the worst part of the year for you? For me, it is May and June. My ragweed sensitivity is not nearly as bad as yours.

Do you use the medicine combination you mentioned year-'round?

Thanks!

I consider the nasal spray the most effective of the three, if I was stranded and had only one choice, that would be it. .....

Really though, make sure you don't put 100% of your trust into just the Singulair, the nasal spray is really the biggest part IMO.

HTH.

I didn't realize that nasal sprays could help with eye symptoms (e.g., itching and swelling)

^^"Try consuming local honey once a day. Local, not out of county or out of state. I haven't tried it myself, but hear it works good. "^^

That's because honey has lots of pollen in it. The theory is that if you ingest pollen every day, your system will stop identifying pollen as a foreign invader and will stop producing all those histamines that result in your symptoms.

Personally, I have found that the pollen tablets from health food stores work for me, after about 2 weeks of taking daily. I also take 1-2 grams of powdered Vitamin C with the pollen, because I read that it bolsters your immune system. After all, your immune system is out of whack and that's resulting in the allergies. If I skip taking these for a few days my allergies get much worse. Hint: Trader Joe's

I can't believe you guys are taking all these meds. Just read the lists of side effects and warnings - you should be shuddering when you finish. You must be young and invincible. Read the newspapers for a few decades and you'll see how many people die or are maimed by meds.

i hear you about taking medicines...all the side effects can kill you. I hate to take medication but my entire life is ruled by these allergies. There really is no way to describe the utter turmoil my body is in during my allergy season.

Are you seeing an allergist? Have you found out specifically what you are most allergic to?

I see an allergist and found that I am very sensitive to tree and grass pollens.

Believe it or not during the tree/grass season I am nearly incapacitated by my allergies. My worse symtpom is itchy, swollen eyes (like yellowfiero).

I hope that if I can get a prescription for Singulair it will help me too.
If you are basically overdosing on various medications, and getting no relief... I think it's time to find a new allergist. (And no, ATOT isn't the equivilent.)

Im certain I am not spelling it right, but ask your pharmicist of OTC Chloronepherine Maleate - that IS GREAT for itchy eyes.

I think name brand Chlor-trimeton is an example, but you can get a bottle of 100 at walmart for like 3 $ off brand.
