Anyone successully use a PCI-E ATI 4850 on 4CoreDual-SATA2

Hi!
Is anyone currently using any ATI 4850 variant on a 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0?

I uninstalled the ATI drivers/chipset, removed AGP card, installed new PCI-E card, set BIOS to make PCI-E Gfx primary and booted into Windows. Installed ATI 8-12 Catalyst suite and rebooted.

Windows XP boots fine but after a few minutes, it either hangs or BSODs complaining on the ati2dvag.dll going into infinite loop.

If you got the combo working, please share what you did to make it work.

I'm on BIOS 2.10

Thanks in advance.

Consensus appears to be that PCIE Downstream Pipeline must be Disabled in BIOS. There are additional reports that PCIE VC1 Request Queue must also be Disabled.

Try disabling PCI Downstream Pipeline first. If no improvement, then disable Request Queue as well.

There are some unofficial modded BIOS available, which appear to be released with at least some collaboration from ASRock (i.e. someone within ASRock is either providing BETA BIOS or technical guidance to some modders):

BIOS 2.11A

BIOS 2.12A

Lastly, try removing your BSEL mod. At least one user reported this worked when everything else had not.

Edit: you should move this back to the 4CoreDual-SATA2 thread where you've already been participating.

Please try the ATI 8.11 drivers first. I have had similar things happen as you did when I tried to install the 8.12. I am not sure why.. many have no issues but try as I might I simply cannot get those drivers to install on my system. Went back to 8.11 and works like a charm so ... at least elimiate that first.

Thanks both.

tcsenter: thanks for the tips and links. i'll check them out and find out how far I can go with them. {Edit} Oh yeah, the Asrock SATA2 thread was just so huge that I thought of posting a new thread. Will probably move discussion over there. {/Edit}

BoboKatt: that's an interesting point. i'll get 8.11 loaded and see what happens. what BIOS version do you run on your mobo (I assume you have a 4CoreDual-SATA2 too?)
